As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the intricate worlds of tabletop RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming prequel comic series, Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons: The Rise of Hellfire. Eddie Munson, the enigmatic metalhead from Stranger Things, has always been a character I could relate to, what with his love for both heavy music and epic adventures.
The character Eddie Munson, portrayed by Joseph Quinn on Stranger Things, is expected to have a Dungeons & Dragons-inspired prequel comic released in his honor.
The famous electric guitarist is getting his own comic series titled from Dark Horse Comics, delving into the period preceding Stranger Things Season 4. This comic will depict how Eddie got involved with Dungeons & Dragons and established the Hellfire Club, a school group centered around the game.
Entitled “Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons: The Ascent of Hellfire,” this four-part comic book series is set to release during winter 2025, aligning with the 50th anniversary celebration of Dungeons & Dragons.
In a new collaboration, Jody Houser, who has previously co-written Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons limited series, teams up with Eric Campbell, an accomplished writer in the Dungeons & Dragons realm (specifically the story collection Worlds & Realms). They are set to work on The Rise of Hellfire together.
It’s no secret now: Jody Houser and I collaborated on the origin tale of Eddie, as well as The Rise of Hellfire, which we penned for Stranger Things and D&D by Wizards of the Coast. These works were published by Dark Horse Comics.

Artist Diego Galindo, previously seen in Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons, will join the team. The creative crew is completed by colorist Diana Sousa and letterer Nate Piekos.
The Rise of Hellfire. This version maintains the original message but uses more everyday language to make it easier to understand.
In this blend of comics, we witness Eddie Munson ascending as the unofficial head of the Hellfire Club. It also shows us flashbacks to the epic D&D campaign that initially drew him in, his recruitment of Lucas, Dustin, and Mike, and brief peeks into the fantastical realms they dominated jointly.
Jody Houser stated, “Upon watching Stranger Things season 4, it became clear to me that the tale of Eddie Munson and the Hellfire Club would make an ideal continuation for our Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons miniseries.
Eric and I both have a lot of experience with the way Dungeons & Dragons fosters friendships and storytelling. It’s been delightful to see Hawkins through this unique perspective.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m super excited to share that starting February 19, 2025, the first issue of “Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons: The Rise of Hellfire” will be gracing the shelves of comic shops! Pre-orders for this thrilling adventure are now open at your local store for just $3.99. Don’t miss out on diving into this epic tale!
