Stolen mandolins returned to music store with apology note: “Sorry I Been Drunk”

Okay, so this is a weird one. Apparently, someone broke into a guitar shop in New Jersey and stole two really expensive mandolins. But get this – a few days later, they just… returned them! They left a handwritten note saying they were totally drunk when they did it, which is… a reason, I guess? It’s a crazy story, but hey, at least the shop got their instruments back!

Lark Street Music, a well-established vintage instrument shop in Teaneck, New Jersey, recently shared a surprising story on social media. Someone returned two mandolins that had been stolen from the store, leaving the shop’s owners pleasantly surprised.

Shop owner Buzzy Levine said the instruments were stolen on December 22nd. Security camera footage showed a man hiding the mandolins—a Gibson F-12 and a Weber Yellowstone—under his coat as he left the store. The two instruments are worth around $7,750 in total.

A Christmas miracle! Mandolins returned

According to ABC News, Levine stated he saw the store’s front door open for a moment and spotted the stolen instruments in shopping bags a few days after the theft. He also found a handwritten note that said, “SORRY, I WAS DRUNK, MERRY CHRISTMAS. You are a good man.”

Levine was shocked by what happened, describing the situation as surreal and like a movie with a surprisingly happy conclusion. He mentioned he tried to follow the person he thought had returned the instruments, but lost them. He then reported the incident to the police.

The store had previously asked for help finding the suspect, and mentioned in security footage that they seemed to have a Montenegrin accent.

The investigation is still ongoing even though the stolen instruments have been recovered. As of December 29th, Teaneck Police have not made any arrests and are continuing to look into what happened. They are asking anyone with information about the incident to get in touch.
