Ke Huy Quan recently shared with The Guardian that one of his favorite moments while filming “The Goonies” was a hilarious prank orchestrated by producer Steven Spielberg, aimed at Harrison Ford, his co-star from “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.” On set during production, this prank took place.
Quan shared that he was thoroughly awestruck upon meeting Harrison Ford, as I had created the character of Indiana Jones. He explained that Steven Spielberg had pulled a prank on Ford, who disliked a certain biography about himself intensely. So, when Ford arrived on set, almost everyone – from the security personnel to the camera crew – were secretly reading copies of this very biography.
In “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom,” Quan first appeared on screen, and afterwards, he worked on “The Goonies.” Steven Spielberg was the director for the initial film. Interestingly enough, Harrison Ford wasn’t the sole high-profile figure to visit that set.
Quad recalled the moment when we learned Michael Jackson might drop by. The whole team was thrilled! We didn’t know exactly when he’d show up, so we kept looking around nervously. And then, right on cue, as he stepped onto the set, everyone paused – even the barista in mid-pour.
Quan explained, ‘He was extremely timid.’ We might’ve made him uncomfortable because there were lots of people around. Remember those pictures online? We were so excited to be in his presence that we couldn’t help but be a bit rowdy. He even generously gifted us tickets for his concert in LA and jackets, some of which we still own today. Unfortunately, I misplaced my jacket, something I regret deeply.
As a young lad, Quan made an appearance alongside Ford in the sequel to “Indiana Jones.” More recently, Quan shared with Entertainment Weekly that his fellow actor assisted him in conquering his apprehensions during filming.
During the filming of that particular scene, Quan confessed he was terrified, recalling when Indiana Jones, portrayed by Harrison Ford, aided Short Round’s escape from the Temple of Doom. “I was petrified,” he admitted, “and I even shed tears. I remember Harrison Ford getting down on his knees in front of me and asking if I was alright.
He assured me then and there, a promise I’ve held dear ever since: ‘I won’t cause you any harm.’ Hearing those words from Indiana Jones only deepened my affection for him, knowing he would protect me.”
In this sentence, I have attempted to maintain the original message while making it more conversational and in first-person perspective. The focus is on the speaker’s emotions and their bond with Indiana Jones, as if they were recounting a personal experience.
It’s been verified that “The Goonies” sequel has officially begun production, with Steven Spielberg returning as the producer and Potsy Ponciroli penning the screenplay.
