Hey there everyone! With Season 5 of Stranger Things drawing near, I feel it’s necessary to discuss a character that has been on my mind – Mr. Steve Harrington. Let me share some thoughts that have been brewing inside.
It’s been quite some time since we last watched “Stranger Things”. Despite being an incredible series that is perfect for binge-watching on Netflix, it’s also a show known for taking its sweet time when it comes to releasing new seasons. By July 2025, it will have been a full three years since the finale of Season 4, and the world seemed to be preoccupied with “Running Up That Hill” for weeks on end.
After the announcement of the release dates for Stranger Things Season 5, I thought it was high time I re-watched the series as it had been a while since I last saw it. And, let me tell you, a theory about Steve that many fans have been discussing is starting to resonate with me more, and I feel compelled to share my thoughts on it.
Steve Has Been One Of My Favorite Characters Since Season 1
To be completely honest, Steve has always been one of my favorite characters right from the start, and I found myself absolutely adoring his transformation into a more nurturing figure for the kids during Season 2. I was drawn to him even when he had a bit of a rough edge – yes, right from the very beginning.
In a simpler and more conversational way: You know how it might seem like I’m drawn to difficult characters in TV shows? Well, that’s just me – I can’t help but be captivated by them because I know their storylines are bound to be intriguing.
One illustration could be Zuko’s character transformation in “Avatar: The Last Airbender”. Similarly, Daryl Dixon from “The Walking Dead” gained such popularity that he even has a spinoff series within the “TWD” universe. Lastly, Theon Greyjoy from “Game of Thrones” – oh boy, he started off as quite a character, and his ending was nothing short of honorable.
This series frequently features characters with the most engaging storylines, and for me, Steve was among them right from the start. As I anticipated, he gained immense popularity as he evolved and developed, notably in his interactions with other characters, such as Dustin. Now, he’s one of the many characters we eagerly await whenever the show returns.
But now, I’m worried about how his story will end in Season 5.

But I Have A Feeling Season 5 Will Be Where He Meets His End
Yeah, I really think Steve is going to die, and I’m pretty sad about it.
Previously, it’s been speculated online that a certain fan theory implies Steve’s conversation about his potential fate foreshadows his demise. This, it seems, is a common mistake often found in horror movies.
There could be additional explanations as to why Steve may not survive in this final season. After all, since this is the last hurrah, it seems unlikely that they would risk upsetting viewers by making them stop watching the series, as fans are likely to tune in regardless.
Previously, there were instances where it seems as though Will may have yelled at Steve to flee, according to reports from Dexerto. This situation isn’t particularly positive considering the way it might influence their final outcome.
However, despite speculations about leaks and data on the potential impact of his death on the series, I have other compelling reasons to believe that Steve could meet his end.

It Would Totally Complete His Character Arc
I was indifferent when he discussed the future; it’s all good, really. To tell the truth, it didn’t cross my mind until I stumbled upon that fan theory.
The reason I genuinely think he is going to die is that it’ll make the most sense.
Initially, Steve was introduced as a selfish, imprudent character who suffered numerous setbacks due to his poor choices in Season 1. However, over the course of the past four seasons, we have witnessed a transformation in him, becoming increasingly selfless and putting others’ wellbeing before his own. This change is particularly evident in his willingness to risk himself for those he cares about deeply.
To fully demonstrate the transformation of this character and complete his journey, it seems likely that he may give up his own life in order to save someone else. While it would be nice to see him live a contented life, given the narrative direction of the series, I suspect they won’t opt for that route if they want to maintain the tightness of his character arc. In particular, I believe he will die for Dustin.

And, Of Course, Give Plenty Of Trauma To Dustin And The Gang
Dustin and Steve unexpectedly teamed up, capturing the hearts of many. Despite being unforeseen, this partnership grew to be quite popular, reaching such a level that in Season 4, when Dustin expressed his fondness for Eddie, a standout character from Season 4, Steve secretly harbored jealousy, as they had grown so close, though he would never openly acknowledge it.
Following Eddie’s departure, it seemed like Dustin was subtly leaning more towards Steve, but logically speaking, Dustin could find himself in danger, leading Steve to potentially put his life on the line to protect him.
Thinking about it makes my heart squeeze, as it’s such an emotional finale – one that could surely bring tears to many eyes.

Not Everyone Can Make It Out Alive
This is the biggest thing. Not everyone can make it out alive.
In the series “Stranger Things”, we’ve seen several characters manage to survive and carry on, but let me make it clear – this is indeed the final season. Once the story wraps up in Season 5, there won’t be any more tales to tell, so there’s no need to keep beloved characters alive because the storyline will have concluded.
With this, the Duffer Brothers possess numerous opportunities to write off major characters if they choose, while ensuring it aligns with the narrative. However, this could imply any character might meet their end – even Eleven, given her strong connection to Vecna, or Will, considering Season 5 may delve deeper into his storyline.
However, Steve is likely the beloved character who meets his fate in our story, providing a dramatic conclusion. This scenario is heartbreaking to contemplate, but it seems to be the narrative that fits best, regrettably.
We’re not due to see Part 1 until November, which is part of Netflix’s 2025 lineup. Even so, I might as well continue brainstorming ideas until then – and let me tell you, the anticipation is killing me when those episodes eventually appear on the streaming service.
