Two years following the release of the “Cujo” film adaptation, the esteemed author collaborated with director Lewis Teague in 1985 to create the horror-thriller titled “Cat’s Eye.” Starting from June 1st, you can stream this movie for free on Tubi.
Similar to another film adaptation of a King novel, “Cat’s Eye” is derived from three of the author’s short stories: Quitters Inc, The Ledge, and General. The movie unfolds like a collection of tales and tracks a cat’s journey to a smoking cessation clinic, a high-rise balcony, and a young girl’s bedroom. The film currently has a 68% rating from critics and a 54% rating from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.
The initial narrative centers around Dick Morrison, who’s attempting to kick his smoking habit and turns to a service with links to organized crime for support. However, this organization warns his family that resuming smoking will have consequences. In a separate account, we follow a man who finds himself in a precarious situation after engaging in an affair with a mobster’s spouse, forced to tread close to the edge of a penthouse rooftop. Although these stories don’t share a direct connection, they are all narrated from the viewpoint of the same wandering tabby cat.
Cat’s Eye Received Praise From Critics
In the third tale, the cat assumes a crucial part by protecting a child named Amanda from a menacing troll concealed within her room’s walls. Upon its premiere, the film “Cat’s Eye” garnered $13.1 million globally, surpassing its production budget of $7 million. Notably, all three narratives in this movie heavily rely on visual effects.
The special effects in this movie are subtle yet powerful, creating an atmosphere that focuses on some fundamental human anxieties, such as fear for loved ones, fear of heights, and fear of suffocation. It appears that Stephen King has been delving into the literature of human fears, and “Cat’s Eye” is one of his most impactful films.
King’s most recent endeavor is a movie adaptation of his very first written novel, which he started creating in the mid-60s. Interestingly, this wasn’t his first published work; it was “The Long Walk” that hit the shelves in 1979. The upcoming dystopian horror film, set in the future, revolves around a competition called The Long Walk, where one hundred teenage boys participate.
On their trek, if they travel slower than 3 miles per hour, they receive a warning, and if they accrue three such warnings within an hour, they are executed. In this endless march, the game persists until only one survivor remains. The last man standing will be granted all his desires for the remainder of his life. The movie is being helmed by…
In the film titled “The Long Walk“, Mark Hamill takes on the role of The Major. The talented cast also includes Ben Wang, Judy Greer, Garrett Wareing, Charlie Plummer, Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, Roman Griffin Davis, Joshua Odjick, Tut Nyuot, Jordan Gonzales, and Izabella Raven.
Starting June 1, you can catch my take on “Eye in the Sky” streaming on Tubi. On the other hand, mark your calendars for September 12 as “The Long Walk” graces the big screen.
