Stephen King Praises Netflix’s Hit New R-Rated Horror Movie With “Best Line Of 2026 So Far”

Stephen King, the famous horror author, says the best line he’s heard in a movie this year is in Netflix’s new horror film.

The author, known for sharing his opinions on entertainment like movies, TV, and books online, recently gave high praise to several films released this year, including Jason Statham’s Shelter, calling it “terrific” and a welcome distraction from current events. Netflix has also released many new titles, such as The Rip, War Machine, and Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man. But according to the author, the best line of the year so far appears in a new horror film from Netflix.

Stephen King says the dialogue in Thrash includes the best line of the year so far. The survival thriller, from director Tommy Wirkola (known for Violent Night), is about a town on the coast that’s destroyed by a massive hurricane. The floodwaters don’t just bring damage, though—they also bring sharks, and a terrifying new threat for the survivors, including a pregnant woman.

Stephen King shared on X (formerly Twitter) that he loved the new Netflix film Thrash, singling out the line “Mommy’s got to fight some fing sharks” as potentially the best of the year. He also retweeted a post from @morgan_1ill, who praised the movie’s over-the-top moments, like a pregnant woman asking someone to visually check her dilation and a foster parent losing half of their backside, calling it a “ridiculous, fun movie!”

The movie Thrash features a talented cast including Phoebe Dynevor (known from Bridgerton) as the central pregnant character, alongside Whitney Peak, Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou (from films like In America and Blood Diamond), Matt Nable, Andrew Lees, Alyla Browne, Stacy Clausen, Dante Ubaldi, Sami Afuni, Tyler Coppin, Adam Dunn, Chai Hansen, Annabel Mullion, Bert La Bonté, Sian Luxford, Amy Mathews, and Josh McConville.

Despite director King’s claim that it features the year’s best line of dialogue, the movie Thrash hasn’t been well-received by critics or viewers. It currently holds a 35% rating from critics and a 28% rating from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. In a review for ScreenRant, Alex Harrison gave Thrash a 5 out of 10, describing the Netflix shark thriller as “b-movie fun.” He went on to say…

Thrash isn’t your typical, low-budget shark movie – it’s surprisingly well-made, but also knows how ridiculous it is and embraces that. Even with a good budget and some known actors, the director, Tommy Wirkola, made sure the final product was just a really enjoyable, classic B-movie experience.

Since its release on April 10th, the movie Thrash has become very popular on Netflix. As of today, April 13th, it’s the number one movie worldwide and in the United States – a position it’s held for the last three days.
