As a movie reviewer with a deep appreciation for sports and comedy, I couldn’t contain my excitement when I heard about Stephen Curry‘s new project, “Mr. Throwback,” premiering on Peacock. The trailer dropped, and it looked like a fun and heartfelt mockumentary series that brings together basketball and humor in an unique way.
As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news about Stephen Curry’s upcoming projects! While he prepares for his journey to Paris for the Olympics, an equally intriguing opportunity awaits him – his first scripted television role on Peacock. The streaming platform has just released the first trailer for “Mr. Throwback,” a six-episode mockumentary series. In this captivating production, I get to see Stephen not only as a basketball legend but also as the Golden State Warriors point guard, portraying himself. Alongside him is his former down-on-his-luck middle school teammate, skillfully played by Adam Pally.
Curry expressed his eagerness in a statement about venturing into scripted comedy with “Mr. Throwback.” This heartwarming show values family and friendships deeply. He shared the trailer on social media on Wednesday, inviting everyone to witness an unfamiliar side of him. Anticipation builds as viewers prepare to engage with relatable characters and their challenges throughout the series.
In addition to Curry and Pally, the ensemble features Ego Nwodim and Adyen Mayeri. Layla Scalisi and Tien Tran make recurring appearances, while Tracy Letts (recently Emmy-nominated for his guest role on “Winning Time”) and Rich Sommer (recently seen in “Clipped”) are also part of the cast. David Wain helms the director’s chair for all six episodes.
Curry expressed his gratitude for being part of the team creating this series, which includes Adam, Ego, Ayden, David Caspe, Matthew Libman, Daniel Libman, and David Wain. Unanimous Media’s Erick Peyton is also involved, serving as a producer alongside the named individuals.
“Mr. Throwback” debuts on Peacock on August 8. Watch the trailer below.
