It appears that Steam‘s top spot for highest-rated games no longer belongs to Valve, as Stardew Valley has surpassed Portal 2 according to Steam Top 250 ratings. Although the difference in ratings is small, Stardew Valley, developed by Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone, currently holds the top position among Steam’s games.
It’s important to mention that Steam Top 250 ranks games using two factors: the number of votes and the percentage (or approval rating) of positive votes. For instance, Stardew Valley boasts nearly 900,000 votes, significantly more than Portal 2’s 436,665. Although Stardew Valley has a slightly lower percentage of positive votes compared to Portal 2, the higher ratio of positive to overall votes gives it the highest ranking in the Steam Top 250.
It’s worth noting that many of the highest-rated games on Steam, such as Hades, Vampire Survivors, Left 4 Dead 2, and Portal, have been around for several years. However, Schedule 1, a game that was recently launched in early access in March of this year, has managed to secure a spot among the top 10, coming in ninth place.
In the past year, a substantial update was introduced in Stardew Valley, yet Eric Barone (also known as ConcernedApe) hasn’t definitively confirmed a sequel at this time. Instead, he is now focusing on his next project called Haunted Chocolatier. Last month, he mentioned that Haunted Chocolatier will feature a larger game world compared to Stardew Valley, hinting that it may take some time before its release due to the delay since its announcement.
