As an enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share the news that the creators, Midwest Games and Moth Atlas, have unveiled a playable demo for their captivating 2D western souls-like action RPG titled “Tombwater”. You can experience it firsthand, absolutely free, through Steam!
Tombwater was originally announced last December and is set to release for PC in 2025.

Team Midwest Games, an industry veteran group offering publishing support to developers, has collaborated with Max Mraz from Moth Atlas to debut the demo of Tombwater, a 2D action RPG reminiscent of Souls series, set in a Wild West town overrun by Eldritch creatures. Mraz is widely recognized for his prior works such as Ocean’s Heart and Yarntown – a reimagining of Bloodborne and the precursor to Tombwater.
Step into the desolate landscape of Tombwater, once bustling with life but now haunted by darkness and the echoing whispers from its abandoned silver mines. This place is no longer a home for people, but a graveyard where they perish. A town that was once vibrant, it now stands as a hollowed-out shell, consumed by an ominous madness. Slip into the worn-out cowboy boots of a solitary gunslinger, drawn to this eerie, crumbling cityscape due to the mysterious disappearance of your friend, Sheriff Elliott Flintwood. Unravel the mystery, brave the horrors lurking in the shadows, and confront the corruption that lies at the core of Tombwater.
In the demonstration version of the game, players catch a glimpse of the past of what was once a thriving mining town. As a solitary gunslinger, you’re on a mission to find your lost companion. It seems that, just possibly, a glimmer of hope remains hidden in the darkness. The demo offers an opportunity for players to explore the game’s opening sequences and familiarize themselves with the combat system, preparing them for the chaos that lies ahead.
Employ a variety of weapons like guns, knives, magic spells, potions, and talismans to create a unique combat approach as you battle the madness and uncover the mysteries hidden by the residents of Tombwater.
