In the Starfield Shattered Space mission titled “The Promised, Broken,” your journey leads you to the holy city of Dazra on Va’ruun’kai planet, following a route guided by The Oracle. Upon receiving Anasko Va’ruun’s words, entry into the city is granted. You then ascend the Serpent’s Path alongside Inaza Kaisir, where you uncover House Va’ruun’s history and the events that sparked its formation. Towards the end of this path, a crucial decision awaits: choosing among four tributes to pay homage to the house.

Upon traversing the Serpent’s Path, Inaza Kaisir addresses you. They share a concise account of House Va’ruun’s history and how its founder established a relationship with their house’s deity, the Grand Serpent. Throughout your journey on this path, you encounter different stops where you are given an opportunity to demonstrate your devotion to the Grand Serpent.
At the initial milestone, you’ll find a solemn tribute illuminated by candles, recounting the story of how the first disciples of House Va’ruun arrived. Feel free to extinguish this candle as you proceed along the way. However, it’s important to note that snuffing out the candle and making subsequent decisions are all at your discretion.
At the second station, you have an option to relieve yourself by throwing away one of your items into a burning brazier near a memorial. If you want, you could put something unwanted into the fire, or choose not to let go and keep your item with you instead.
At the third control point, you can opt for a daring jump over a chasm with a waterfall, which happens to be the simplest checkpoint to conquer since it only requires a single jump. But if you’re not feeling quite so adventurous, veer right from the memorial and use the metal stairs to circumnavigate the gap instead.
Ultimately, the fourth and fifth milestones are situated closely together. At the fourth milestone, you can opt to wade into tainted water beneath a memorial, which causes minor harm but the poisonous effect subsides swiftly. The fifth milestone presents a challenging decision: either kill a small creature resembling a rodent, known as a Groat, to demonstrate allegiance to House Va’ruun, or spare its life by proceeding past its territory.
What Effigy should you pick in Starfield?
At last, you will eventually reach a point where you can choose an Effigy. A golden glow will appear on your screen as you approach to view the four available Effigies: Obedience, Strength, Devotion, and Perseverance. You must select two of these, place them on different altars, and then leave the Serpent’s Path.
