Starbucks’ new holiday merchandise received immediate criticism after the popular Bearista Cold Cup, a 20-ounce tumbler shaped like a bear, quickly sold out on November 6th.
The collectible, priced at $22.95, was widely advertised on social media, causing a lot of customers to want it. Many of them say stores didn’t have enough available to meet the high demand.
Many Starbucks fans noticed the limited-edition Bearista cups sold out incredibly quickly. Some reported that stores only received a very small number of cups – even just one or two – while others claimed employees were buying them before the store officially opened. This fast sellout frustrated a lot of customers, who shared their disappointment on platforms like Reddit, Instagram, and TikTok.
Okay, so Starbucks just told People magazine that the demand for those Bearista collectible cups totally blew up – way more than they even thought possible! They’re actually apologizing for how hard they are to find. Apparently, they sent out a ton of them to stores this holiday season, more than almost anything else they sell, but they wouldn’t say exactly how many each store got. It’s frustrating, but at least they admit it was a huge hit!
Customer complaints over Bearista Cold Cup rollout
Customers online criticized the product launch as badly managed and unfair, reporting that some waited in line only to see store employees buying the items first. One person on Reddit said their store only received a single cup, and another claimed staff admitted employees were allowed to buy them before customers.
One Instagram user criticized Starbucks for limited availability of a popular item, noting that stores often only had one or two in stock and that baristas were allowed to purchase them before customers. The commenter suggested Starbucks should have reserved more stock for both employees and customers, recommending at least 10-20 items per store.
People who were able to buy the Bearista cup are now reselling them on eBay, and some are listed at surprisingly high prices.

The $23 item has sold for between $220 and $360 through various eBay listings.
Starbucks hasn’t explained how employees can buy exclusive items, but they have confirmed that more holiday merchandise is coming soon.
Dunkin’ isn’t alone in launching new products this November. They’ve partnered with Wicked to offer special cups, accessories, and two brand-new drinks.
