Starbucks is testing a new feature on ChatGPT that uses artificial intelligence to suggest drinks. You can tell it how you’re feeling, what you’re in the mood for, or even show it a picture, and it will recommend a Starbucks beverage.
Launching on April 15th, the new Starbucks feature within ChatGPT helps customers easily find the perfect drink. Instead of looking through menus, you can simply tell the tool what you’re in the mood for, and it will suggest drinks tailored to your preferences.
This launch is part of Starbucks’ ongoing effort to build a more connected digital experience. They’re focusing on letting customers personalize their orders and take advantage of the growing trend of social media influencing what people buy, something already popular with the Starbucks app and the famous ‘secret menu’.
Starbucks launches AI tool to recommend drinks based on mood
The latest beta version allows customers to order from Starbucks through ChatGPT. You can simply tell ChatGPT what you’re looking for – like a refreshing morning drink or a less-sweet afternoon pick-me-up – and it will place the order for you.
You can also upload photos – like of your workspace, what you’re wearing, the weather, or the view around you – to help the AI suggest a drink that fits your mood.
After getting a drink recommendation, customers can personalize it, choose a Starbucks location, and start their order right in ChatGPT. They finish paying through the Starbucks app or website.

Starbucks explains that this new feature is meant to work like how people already find drinks they like – by seeing what’s popular on social media and by asking baristas to customize their orders.
The company is encouraging this trend with features like popular drink suggestions and customized menu options, and sees its new ChatGPT integration as another way to create more personalized ordering for customers.
ChatGPT is now working with several companies to create unique apps powered by its AI chatbot. For example, Spotify is using the technology to help people discover new music they’ll enjoy.
