Today, it’s been announced that Electronic Arts is calling their upcoming Star Wars tactics game “Star Wars: Zero Company”. For some time now, there have been whispers about this game, with many comparing it to the well-known tactical game series XCOM. On April 19th, during the annual Star Wars Celebration, fans will get a chance to learn more about this exciting new title.
Star Wars Zero Company might be set in during the Clone Wars
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled about the upcoming turn-based strategy game on my radar. This game is going to be crafted by the talented folks at Respawn, known for their work on the Star Wars Jedi series, Apex Legends, and Titanfall. However, it’s being developed by a fresh studio called Bit Reactor, comprised of industry veterans who have made their mark in strategy games like XCOM and Civilization. The Star Wars Jedi games have been popular, but the latest Star Wars video game, Star Wars Outlaws, apparently fell short of Ubisoft’s expectations, bucking the trend that such a powerful franchise name usually boosts sales figures.
In addition to unveiling the title, Star Wars Zero Company, today’s announcement also shared an intriguing image that showcases five distinct characters. One figure in the foreground appears to be wearing Mandalorian-like armor, reminiscent of Boba Fett, but their identity remains unknown. Other characters depicted include a clone trooper, an alien wielding a green lightsaber, and a character encased in a full space suit. Despite these intriguing details, the identities of all the characters are yet to be revealed.
In the front is a character who strongly resembles the actor from the upcoming TV series ‘Andor’, though it’s not definitive. If he is indeed the star, it seems unusual that they wouldn’t use this for promotion. Notably, the character carries a holographic gadget showing what appears to be a Battle Droid, enemies typically encountered during the Clone Wars era in Star Wars history. Additionally, a Clone Trooper is also present, suggesting the game could take place during that specific timeframe, hinting at the possibility of its setting.
Over the coming weekend, we’re likely to gather more details about the upcoming Star Wars game, offering a comprehensive look at its gameplay. Since it’s a strategy game with a turn-based approach, it may not deliver the same level of excitement as a game like Jedi: Survivor. However, this weekend’s unveiling could shape the direction for Star Wars video games in entirety.
