Star Wars RECAST?! Andor Season 2 Shocks Fans!

In the second season of Andor, there’s been a change in the actor portraying a character who debuted in Star Wars more than two decades back, but the reason behind this switch remains a mystery.

This week marks the return of Andor, widely regarded as the finest Star Wars television series, for its much-awaited second and concluding season, which will be broadcast on our screens.

Instead of just one year, Season 2 spans four years, dividing each year’s thrilling, covert, and universe-changing events into blocks of three episodes. The series will ultimately lead up to the beginning of Rogue One, making it convenient for viewers to continue streaming on Disney Plus without interruption.

This time around, some well-known actors have joined the cast of Andor, yet one role will be portrayed by a newcomer instead.

Andor Season 2 recasts Bail Organa

Bail Organa will be played by Benjamin Bratt in Andor Season 2, replacing Jimmy Smits.

In 2002, Smits first portrayed Organa in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones. He was also seen in Revenge of the Sith and resurfaced in Rogue One a decade later. Notably, he reappeared in Obi-Wan Kenobi in 2022 as well.

It’s not clear why Bratt was chosen to play Organa over Smits, given that he is only committed to one upcoming project – Dexter: Resurrection, where he reprises his role as Miguel Prado. It might be that he declined the project or there could have been scheduling conflicts (either work-related or personal) that came up.

🚨 Potential Spoiler for Andor Season 2 🚨

It’s been confirmed that the character Bail Organa, who appeared in Andor’s first season, will return for the second. However, instead of Jimmy Smits reprising his role, it will be played by Benjamin Pratt this time around.

According to the review on The Mary Sue, we catch a glimpse into the evolving relationship between Mon and Bail Organa, portrayed this time by Benjamin Pratt.

Despite many fans feeling that Bratt is an excellent pick for the role, they’re still feeling disappointed (and bewildered) about Smits not returning. “It’s hard to believe he appeared in Kenobi but not Andor,” one fan commented. “However, I have faith Benjamin Bratt will deliver, and it’s clear that Tony and his team wouldn’t have recast if he wasn’t crucial to the plot. Instead of using a deepfake, this seems like a better choice.

It’s a bit disappointing that Jimmy Smits returned as Bail Organa, giving an exceptional performance in Kenobi, rather than having the opportunity to perform compelling monologues in Andor, a show with strong narrative.

Jimmy Smits’ intense surprise appearance from the shadows during Rogue One might now inadvertently elicit laughter due to its unexpected nature.

If a studio encounters this predicament, choosing an alternative actor could be an excellent decision. However, if anyone else takes on the role that Smits originally played, it might seem quite puzzling, as he truly embodies it.

To The Hollywood Reporter, Andor’s showrunner Tony Gilroy didn’t explicitly discuss the replacement of Smits’ role, but he noted: “It can be quite challenging to reintroduce legacy characters.

“They’re extremely pricey and often unavailable due to scheduling conflicts. Regrettably, there might have been a few individuals we desired for Yavin at the end, who appeared in Rogue first, but we couldn’t secure their presence as they were occupied.

Make sure you’re well-informed about when Andor Season 2 will be available on Disney Plus. Additionally, feel free to explore details about Ryan Gosling’s Star Wars: Starfighter, as well as upcoming movies and shows within the franchise, and major TV series slated for release in 2025.
