The latest Star Wars series is proving very popular on Disney+. It garnered 4.1 million views in its first week and has consistently been among the top 10 most-streamed shows on the platform since it premiered.
Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord is a fantastic exploration of the darker side of the Star Wars universe, offering a deep look into the mind of one of its most compelling villains. Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord Is a Streaming Hit
Before becoming a co-head of Lucasfilm, Dave Filoni created the comic Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord. This project allowed him to revisit his background in Star Wars animation, following his work on the live-action series The Mandalorian, where he served as a writer, director, and executive producer.
In Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, Sam Witwer reprises his role as the voice of Maul, a character he previously brought to life in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels.
What Is Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord About?
Lucasfilm describes Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord as a fast-paced, exciting adventure. The animation style is similar to other Star Wars animated shows like The Clone Wars and The Bad Batch, but with a few updates to better tell this particular story.

In Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, Maul takes on a new student named Devon Izara, a Twi’lek former Jedi, voiced by Gideon Adlon. This character is similar to a villain Lucas originally intended to be Maul’s Sith apprentice in the sequel trilogy, but who later appeared as a villain in the Star Wars: Legacy comic book series.
The first four episodes of Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord are now available to stream on Disney+. New episodes will be released every Monday on Disney+ until all ten episodes of the first season have premiered. The season will conclude on Star Wars Day, May 4th.
