Star Wars Is No Longer Just Movies—You Won’t Believe How Much The Franchise Has Exploded!

The findings of a recent study indicate that the Star Wars series has transcended its status as a mere film franchise, demonstrating the expansive growth within George Lucas’ galaxy. It’s essential to acknowledge that Star Wars encompasses more than just movies; for instance, a novelization (penned by Alan Dean Foster) was published before the first movie even premiered. Often, when discussing Star Wars, people primarily focus on the films. However, this perspective overlooks a significant portion of what Star Wars truly embodies.

In preparation for Star Wars Day this year, Finance Buzz delved into the figures, considering only the movies and television series. They found that there are over 15,000 minutes, which equates to around 254 hours, of Star Wars content available on Disney+. Remarkably, for every minute of movie-based Star Wars content, there are almost seven minutes of TV content. Furthermore, Finance Buzz’s analysis reveals that “while the main attractions are the live-action movies, nearly 70% of all Star Wars content is animated.

Star Wars Began As A Movie Franchise… But It’s So Much More

Star Wars, which we’re accustomed to thinking as a movie series, has undergone a remarkable transformation according to Finance Buzz’s analysis. A large part of this change occurred after 2008, marking the start of George Lucas’s launch of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Since then, there’s been a continuous flow of new installments, both animated and live-action, that have significantly impacted the franchise as we know it, according to Finance Buzz.

As a devoted Star Wars fan, I can’t help but marvel at the incredible expansion of this epic universe. The animated series, “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” initially premiered in 2008, with the bulk of its episodes being unveiled throughout the 2010s before it was brought back to life in the 2020s.

The “Clone Wars” saga spans an impressive seven seasons and 133 episodes, totaling a whopping 3,000 minutes of content – that’s more than double the 1,493 minutes found in the eleven movies released in theaters! It’s fascinating to see how this animated series has significantly added to the vast Star Wars lore.

Yes, that’s right; we spend more time in the Clone Wars than we do in the Skywalker saga itself.

How Will Star Wars Evolve In Future?

It’s quite intriguing to make assumptions based on this, as it suggests significant shifts in the Star Wars franchise are coming. It’s been six years since the last Star Wars movie hit theaters, but we now have two upcoming films – The Mandalorian and Grogu, and Star Wars: Starfighter. However, it seems like the pace of new Star Wars TV shows is decreasing. Yet, next year alone, there will be one more animated and live-action show, indicating that the balance will continue to tilt.

Though there’s undeniably excitement surrounding these new releases, a more serious concern lurks beneath: When do they merely become content instead of fresh and innovative? Some fans have voiced this very concern about Disney+ releases, indicating it might be high time for the Star Wars franchise to return to the big screen. For now, however, one fact remains undisputed: George Lucas’ Star Wars universe has certainly expanded.
