Star Wars Is Finally Giving Fans the Darth Maul Show They’ve Been Begging For

At Celebration Japan, Lucasfilm unveiled a brand new animated series titled “Maul – Shadow Lord“, which revolves around the character of Darth Maul.

In 1999, Maul made his first appearance in ‘Star Wars: The Phantom Menace’, portrayed by Ray Park and voiced by Peter Serafinowicz. Hailing from Dathomir, this character was taken as a child by Darth Sidious and trained to be his initial Sith apprentice. Although Obi-Wan Kenobi appeared to have killed Maul in ‘Episode I’, it was disclosed in ‘The Clone Wars’ that he survived using the dark side of the Force. In this series, it was also unveiled that he relinquished his title as “Darth” and abandoned the Sith ways, realizing he was merely a tool for Sidious. Instead, Maul transformed into a merciless crime lord.

In both “The Clone Wars” and “Star Wars Rebels”, Maul played a significant role. In the latter, he had another encounter with Obi-Wan, resulting in their final lightsaber duel which led to Maul’s death. His most recent live-action appearance was in “Solo: A Star Wars Story”. The events of that film left his fate between then and “Rebels” somewhat ambiguous.

Maul – Shadow Lord premieres in 2026 on Disney+.
