Star Wars: First Look Inside an AT-AT Reveals Surprising Size & Epic Battle Scenes!

For the first time on-screen, Star Wars unveiled the impressive size of an Imperial AT-AT walker’s interior. Preview footage from the upcoming Mandalorian and Grogu film reveals fresh insights into the forthcoming escapades of Din Djarin and his adopted son. It appears they will be engaging in sabotage activities, targeting walkers owned by the Imperial Remnant during the New Republic.

In 2026, we can expect the movie titled “The Mandalorian and Grogu” to be the first “Star Wars” film to hit theaters since 2019’s “Rise of Skywalker“. Previews for this movie were unveiled at Star Wars Celebration 2025, featuring a thrilling scene where our hero, Din Djarin, skillfully defeats Imperial troops. This clip ties up nicely with the end of season 3 of “The Mandalorian“, where it was revealed that Djarin would be taking on jobs for New Republic outposts in the Outer Rim. Consequently, the new big-screen battle between The Mandalorian showcases just how massive an AT-AT appears when viewed from inside.

The Mandalorian & Grogu’s AT-AT Fight Reveals How Big The Walker Is On The Inside

Thanks To A New Scene Featuring Din Djarin

At Star Wars Celebration 2025, a fascinating clip featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu was unveiled. In this footage, Din Djarin is seen sneaking past a trio of Imperial walkers perched on an icy precipice. An astounding single-take sequence unfolds as Djarin slips into the rear of an AT-AT walker, annihilating numerous snowtroopers en route inside the assault vehicle. As The Mandalorian moves towards the front cockpit of the AT-AT, it’s striking how massive the legendary Imperial walker appears to be in close quarters.

Inside the massive AT-AT, Din Djarin engages in combat with more than ten snowtroopers. There’s ample space within for such a battle. Subsequently, one of the walkers is set to explode and detonates, possibly due to Djarin’s actions, sending it tumbling down the cliffside. Luke Skywalker from ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ would certainly applaud this display of skill.

How Big Is An AT-AT?

Over 20 Meters Tall

As per the official Star Wars lore, the typical Imperial AT-AT walker stands approximately 20 meters tall. Detailed illustrations in books like “Star Wars: Complete Vehicles” and intricate LEGO UCS Imperial Walker models reveal that this colossal machine can accommodate up to 40 troopers, two deck officers, a pilot, a gunner, and a commander. Additionally, it has space for four speeder bikes, one metric ton of cargo, and two disassembled AT-STs. However, the experience of watching characters move around inside an AT-AT for the first time on-screen is quite different from reading about or viewing renderings of it.

The Mandalorian & Grogu Gives Us The First Live-Action AT-AT Walker Fights Since The Original Trilogy

Bringing A Classic Imperial Vehicle To The New Republic Era

As a devoted movie enthusiast, I can’t hide my excitement at the prospect of venturing inside an AT-AT for the first time in live-action since the epic Battle of Hoth in ‘The Empire Strikes Back’. The Mandalorian and Grogu are set to bring us fresh walker action within the Star Wars timeline, a thrilling development indeed! It’s been quite some time since we’ve seen Imperial walkers in action on the big screen, with ‘Return of the Jedi’ being the last instance. Even in that film, our focus was mostly on the nimbler AT-STs, with only a fleeting glimpse of an AT-AT on Endor.

The Mandalorian and Grogu releases in theaters on May 22nd, 2026.
