Daisy Ridley has given fans hope that she will return as Rey Skywalker in a future Star Wars film.
What did Daisy Ridley say about Star Wars Rey Skywalker movie?
It’s been almost three years since Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, revealed that Daisy Ridley would reprise her role as Rey in a new Star Wars film directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Despite the initial announcement, the movie hasn’t moved forward, and several different writers have worked on the screenplay.
In an interview with IGN, Daisy Ridley shared her confidence in the team making the new Rey movie and hinted that fans will be rewarded for their patience.
It’s amazing to see how things change in Hollywood! I remember Ridley reading scripts years ago that seemed like distant dreams, but now she’s genuinely hopeful they’ll actually get made. She’s learned firsthand just how difficult it is to bring a movie to life – there are so many challenges. But she’s especially excited about this new Rey movie. She knows the people working on it – really talented writers and filmmakers – and she truly believes the wait will be worth it. As a fan, that makes me feel so optimistic!
Daisy Ridley first played Rey in the 2015 film Star Wars: The Force Awakens, where she was introduced as a resourceful scavenger with a connection to the Force. Throughout the three sequel films, Rey learned the ways of the Jedi, ultimately defeating Emperor Palpatine, who was revealed to be her grandfather. In the final film, The Rise of Skywalker, Rey took the name Skywalker as her own.
Plans for a solo movie starring Ridley began in 2022, initially with Obaid-Chinoy directing and a script by Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson. However, the script went through changes – Steven Knight took over in March 2023, but then George Nolfi became the screenwriter in January 2025. These changes also affected the filming schedule, which has been moved from its original February 2024 start date to 2025.
The upcoming Star Wars film starring Rey will be set about 15 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. The story will follow Rey as she builds a new generation of Jedi.
