Star Wars Actor Is "Quite Surprised" The Acolyte Was Canceled After One Season

As a seasoned gamer and avid Star Wars fan with a soft spot for intriguing narratives, I was initially thrilled to dive into The Acolyte, especially with the talented Lee Jung-jae at its helm. However, like a Jedi’s lightsaber meeting an unexpected obstacle, the show’s abrupt cancellation after just one season left me feeling a bit disheartened, much like Master Sol’s untimely demise in the series.

It turns out that actor Lee Jung-jae, who portrays Master Sol in the Star Wars TV series The Acolyte, was taken aback when he learned that the show had been axed following its debut season.

In the first season, Master Sol passed away, which meant that Lee wouldn’t return if Disney decided to produce a second season. Nevertheless, the actor expressed admiration for the writing and directing abilities of series creator Leslye Headland, and held out optimism for another season.

Lee shared with Entertainment Weekly that the news left him genuinely surprised on a personal level. But in Hollywood, anything can happen, and the actor hasn’t lost faith just yet. He’s keeping his fingers crossed for potential changes ahead, believing there could be more tales from Leslye’s second season in the future. You never know what might transpire!

Headland likely wouldn’t have been taken aback by the show’s cancellation, given her statement to Entertainment Weekly in late July indicating no news about renewal. Still, she had thoughts brewing for a potential Season 2.

The news of The Acolyte’s cancellation sparked a wide range of reactions, from various perspectives, as people shared their thoughts on the termination of the series.

During its initial release in June, The Acolyte attracted an impressive 4.8 million viewers on its first day, breaking Disney+’s previous record. This number climbed further to 11.1 million within a week. Unfortunately, viewership for the series finale dipped significantly, possibly reaching an all-time low for any Star Wars television show final episode.

Although The Acolyte has no plans for a return, Disney continues to develop new Star Wars television series, such as the upcoming Skeleton Crew, slated for release in December.
