Warning: SPOILERS for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Season 1
Season one of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy ended with several mysteries, though some have been explained through other sources. The series, created by Gaia Violo and overseen by executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau, currently has an 88% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The first season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy concluded with resolutions to the main stories focusing on Captain Nahla Ake (Holly Hunter), Caleb Mir (Sandro Rosta), his mother Anisha Mir (Tatiana Maslany), and the antagonist, Nus Braka (Paul Giamatti). Starfleet Academy successfully stopped Braka’s plot to kill billions of people and dismantle the United Federation of Planets.
The team behind Star Trek: Starfleet Academy has shared updates in recent interviews. They confirmed that features like the War College will return in season 2, which has already finished filming. While season 1 of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy offered a complete and satisfying story, the creators have left many characters and ideas open for further exploration.
12. Isn’t Anisha Mir Still A Fugitive?
The first season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy ends with Caleb and Anisha Mir excited to travel the Earth together over the summer. There’s even a moment of understanding between Anisha and her rival, Captain Ake, suggesting a positive future for the two. However, a major problem remains: Anisha is still a fugitive, having escaped from prison with a long sentence still to serve.
The show Star Trek: Starfleet Academy chose to give Caleb and Anisha a positive resolution, avoiding a return to prison for Anisha and another separation from her son. It’s possible Captain Ake leveraged her influence with Admiral Vance to secure Anisha’s release, considering the Mir family has already endured significant hardship due to the Federation.
11. Why Wasn’t Ocam Sadal In Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Season 1’s Finale?
As a big Star Trek: Starfleet Academy fan, I was really bummed to hear that Ocam Sadal (played by Romeo Carare) wasn’t in the last two episodes of season one. It meant he missed out on the trip to Ukeck with Caleb and the others, and that cool stowaway adventure on the USS Athena with his sister, Tarima (Zoë Steiner), and Jay-Den Kraag (Karim Diané). Honestly, it was a shame he wasn’t even in the final group photo with all the cadets – it just didn’t feel complete without him!
As a big Star Trek fan, I always found Ocam fascinating. It made total sense he was on Betazed with his dad, President Sadal, for the opening of the new Federation building. The show hinted he was someone who liked to connect with different groups, so I always wondered if that explained where he ended up at the end of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. Honestly, he was a real standout character, and his absence was definitely felt in the first season finale of Starfleet Academy – it just wasn’t the same without him!
10. How Did Nus Braka Know About Omega-47?
In the Star Trek: Starfleet Academy episode “Come, Let’s Away,” Nus Braka and the Venari Ral raided Starbase J19-Alpha, making off with Omega-47 and other highly classified technology. The big question is: how did these space pirates find out the Federation was even working on Omega-47?
Fans of Star Trek often wondered if Nus Braka had a spy inside Starfleet or the Federation to explain his knowledge of Omega-47. Some even believed Anisha Mir was the real mastermind. While neither idea was ever confirmed, it remains a mystery how Nus Braka found out about Omega-47 on J19-Alpha.
9. Lots of Questions About The Dar-Sha & Genesis’ Dadmiral
Genesis Lythe, played by Bella Shepard, is a compelling character because of her expressive eyes, described as being remarkably focused. However, the series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy doesn’t reveal much about her species, the Dar-Sha. Genesis is the first member of her race to attend Starfleet Academy since a catastrophic event called The Burn. Though driven and ambitious, she privately struggles with insecurity. She was raised on starships by her father, a well-known and admired Starfleet Admiral, who remains unseen.
Noga Landau, a co-showrunner on Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, and creator Gaia Violo have described the Dar-Sha as a wandering people intentionally designed with a striking, almost otherworldly aesthetic—they envisioned them as if they’d just arrived from Burning Man. Fans are hoping the second season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will delve deeper into the Dar-Sha’s culture and potentially introduce new characters, including the ‘Dadmiral’ mentioned in the Genesis novel.
8. Will Jay-Den Kraag See His Klingon Family Again?
In the fourth episode of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, titled “Vox in Excelso,” we learned the sad story of Jay-Den Kraag: his family left him so he could attend Starfleet Academy. Despite losing his brother, Jay-Den’s parents are still alive and may have moved to Faal Alpha, the Klingons’ new home.
I’m really hoping for Jay-Den! It’s been so heartbreaking watching him deal with the loss of his family, but Noga Landau, one of the showrunners for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, has given me a little hope that we might see them again. And I’m thrilled to hear the Klingons are coming back in season 2 – especially because I’m so invested in House Kraag and what happens next with their story. It feels like everything is coming together!
7. Will Darem Reymi’s Parents Ever Speak To Him?
Darem Reymi, also known as George Hawkins, carries the weight of a personal loss. As the first Khionian in Starfleet, he constantly strives to earn the approval of his estranged parents. Even significant life events – like his wedding and a short time as king of Khionia in the Star Trek: Starfleet Academy episode “Ko’Zeine” – weren’t enough to prompt them to reach out.
Darem has found a close-knit group of friends at Starfleet Academy who feel like family, but he still struggles with the pain of being abandoned by his parents. The second season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy might finally explain why his parents left and potentially show a reunion between them and their son.
6. Will Darem & Jay-Den Start Dating In Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Season 2?
Okay, so it’s pretty obvious Darem Reymi has a thing for Jay-Den Kraag – I mean, George Hawkins even told ScreenRant that Darem definitely has romantic feelings! It’s just… things are complicated because Jay-Den was with Kyle Djokovich (who also goes by Dale Whibley) from the War College. We haven’t seen them together since episode 7 of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, though, so who knows what’s going on now?
Darem was immediately drawn to Jay-Den when they first met in season one of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, and Jay-Den is aware of Darem’s feelings. Fans are hoping they’ll become a couple in season two, especially since Jay-Den has already welcomed Darem into House Kraag.
5. Where Did USS Athena’s Bridge Crew Go?
We first met the crew of the USS Athena in the first episode of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy when Captain Ake took charge of the ship. But after appearing again in episode 4, the Athena’s officers disappeared from the show. What happened to them, and what were they doing when they weren’t on duty on the bridge?
| USS Athena Command Crew | Position | Actor |
|---|---|---|
| Captain Nahla Ake | Captain, Chancellor | Holly Hunter |
| Commander Lura Thok | First Officer, Cadet Master | Gina Yashere |
| The Doctor | Chief Medical Officer | Robert Picardo |
| Lieutenant Thelonious Dandridge | Helmsman/Conn Officer | Michael Brown |
| Lieutenant Mackenzie Ya | Tactical Officer | Rebecca Quin |
| Lieutenant Hayden Thriss | Operations Officer | Ken Barnett |
| Lieutenant Astrid Atlee | Communications Officer | Nicole Dickinson |
| Ensign Weldu | Science Officer | Joseph Chiu |
| Lieutenant Rork | Academic Liaison | Tricia Black |
Several key members of the USS Athena, including Commander Lura Thok (Gina Yashere) and The Doctor (Robert Picardo), also teach at Starfleet Academy. The upcoming second season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will feature the return of the Athena’s bridge crew, and fans are hoping to learn more about their backgrounds and roles.
4. What More Will We Find Out More About Captain Ake’s Past?
We need to learn more about Captain Ake’s background. Nahla is a very old, essentially immortal being – she’s 423 years old and half-Lanthanite. While Star Trek: Starfleet Academy season one showed us she was a mischievous cadet who tragically lost her son in The Burn, there’s a lot more to her story. Admiral Charles Vance hinted that her Starfleet file contains some truly surprising information.
According to the show’s creators, Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau, the second season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will delve deeper into Captain Ake’s backstory and introduce some of Nahla’s family members from the Lanthanite people. Given Nahla Ake’s extensive life – over four hundred years spanning before, during, and after The Burn – viewers can expect to learn even more intriguing details about her.
3. Will We Find Out More About Caleb Mir’s Past?
Look, the emotional payoff of seeing Caleb Mir finally reconnect with his mother at the end of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy season one was fantastic. But honestly, the show left a huge gap in his story. We know he was separated from her, and then suddenly he’s twenty-one and being recruited by Captain Ake. What happened in those fifteen years? How did a young boy survive on his own, outside of Federation space, all that time? It feels like a crucial part of his journey is just…missing.
It seems likely Caleb received guidance from others before meeting Captain Ake. There’s still a lot we don’t know about his past, which could explain his cleverness and ability to get things done. Hopefully, the second season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will explore his 15 years spent living as an outcast.
