According to her former partner, Steven Weersing, and reports from the Daily Mail, Tara Fleming – a figure in the recent documentary on the 2011 tornado in Joplin, Missouri – has gone missing in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
In the forthcoming Netflix documentary, both Fleming and Weersing are slated to appear. This duo reconnected following their time at the same high school, a connection that was strengthened when the devastating 2011 Joplin tornado occurred – one of the deadliest tornadoes in American history.
A missing persons report was filed on March 17, 2025.
Missing Tara Fleming set to appear in Twister: Caught in the Storm
Through a previously removed Facebook post, Weersing expressed: “Should anyone or any friends of Tara’s have encountered or been in touch with Tara, kindly inform me. I had to submit a missing persons report due to a concerning and troubling call this morning. According to the call, Tara was in Tulsa, experienced a robbery involving her phone, purse, and car, and felt very frightened.
Those who were present at the time of the incident seem secretive and inconsistent, changing their stories and not appearing since then. If anyone encounters her or learns about her whereabouts, please share this information with me or someone else.
In 2011, Weersing sustained severe injuries during a storm. He was put into a medically induced coma for three full weeks post-storm, and unfortunately contracted a bacterial infection that consumed his flesh. However, a romantic relationship blossomed between them after Fleming stood by him throughout his recovery process.
The documentary examines the 2011 disaster, which killed 158 people and injured 1,000 more.
The duo remained a pair until the year 2017, at which point Weersing was accused of committing second-degree domestic assault, with claims that he had strangled Fleming during a dispute.
Weersing’s latest companion, Lena Dawn, too expressed concern on Facebook about Tara Fleming’s whereabouts: “Has anyone spotted or gotten in touch with Tara Fleming recently? She was last reported to be in the Tulsa, OK area. There’s an ongoing missing persons case for her, and she was said to be ‘walking’ in Tulsa, but no specific location has been found.
Afterward, Weersing shared on Facebook that Fleming had been located, however, due to being stranded in Tulsa, she couldn’t return to Joplin.
Twister: Caught in the Storm is now available to stream on Netflix.
