Stan Lee’s Shocking Final Years Revealed in New Documentary

Stan Lee’s Last Chapter, the upcoming documentary, delves into claims of exploitation during the late Marvel mastermind’s life. However, for those eagerly anticipating its release, I regret to inform you that there may be a delay in its availability.

Lee’s influence on the comic book genre can hardly be overstated. He played a significant role in shaping Marvel into the powerhouse it is known as today. Together with Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, he is frequently recognized as a co-creator of some of the industry’s most iconic superheroes, including Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, the Avengers, and the X-Men.

Lee wasn’t unfamiliar with disputes, as he often faced growing criticism over the amount of credit he received for designing Marvel’s superheroes who wear capes. This persisted even after his death in 2018 at the age of 95, with Kirby’s son criticizing a 2023 documentary for understating his father’s contributions to the project.

However, as indicated by Jon Bolerjack, Stan Lee’s final chapter delves into a distinct controversy: allegations of mistreatment, manipulation, and betrayal that Lee faced during the latter stages of his life.

Stan Lee: The Final Chapter won’t be released anytime soon

Although the trailer was released on March 11, 2025, there hasn’t been an announced release date yet for Stan Lee: The Final Chapter, as it’s still in the process of being funded through a crowdsource campaign.

For a number of years, Bolerjack secretly amassed video recordings of Lee to document his activities, with the intention of incorporating this material into the documentary he’s creating.

On the contrary, unlike many other projects that release trailers close to their debut, Stan Lee: The Final Chapter is currently being produced. There’s a possibility that it might not make it to the screen after all.

To successfully complete the film, Bolerjack needs to gather $300,000 for production costs and payment to the crew who have generously donated their time. As mentioned on the page, this is an “all or nothing” project, meaning it will only receive funding if the goal of $300,000 is reached by April 11, 2025.

Ever since its debut together with the trailer, the Kickstarter campaign for Stan Lee: The Final Chapter has successfully amassed $34,500 at the present moment. Unfortunately, there are no clear timelines as to when this project will be finished or which streaming platform it will eventually be available on.

What is the documentary about?

From a devoted admirer’s perspective: “Stan Lee: The Last Chapter” compiles unprecedented footage from the final chapter of Stan Lee’s life, spanning the last four years. This captivating account sheds light on startling claims of exploitation and neglect, aiming to bring justice for this iconic figure in the comic book world, whose Marvel creations have touched countless lives.

As a gamer, I noticed in the trailer that my character, Lee, is compelled to work under some sketchy folks within the gaming industry. This includes signing merchandise and posing for photos, even though he’s clearly not in the best of health. It’s not exactly how I’d script it, but it seems like part of his storyline now.

As Bolerjack recounts, “In that moment, I lacked the ability to halt what was happening, but fortunately, I had my trusty camera with me and captured every second of it on video.

The documentary additionally features testimonies directly from crucial eyewitnesses, such as the creator of Deadpool himself, Rob Liefeld, along with Roy Thomas, who was Lee’s initial replacement as Marvel Comics’ editor-in-chief.

From my perspective as an avid fan, according to the Kickstarter description, “Stan Lee: The Final Chapter” is a thrilling tale of intrigue and deception, similar to a rollercoaster ride. It delves into the life of the legendary comic book creator Stan Lee, who brought iconic characters like The Avengers, X-Men, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Hulk, and Black Panther to life. However, this story takes an unexpected turn as it unfolds a real-life scandal surrounding Stan Lee that’s just as captivating as any superhero saga.

Jon Bolerjack, a filmmaker, was not only an assistant to Stan but also a regular member of his close-knit group. He managed to secure unique access and recorded everything he witnessed throughout the events.

It was discovered that Stan’s signatures and memorabilia were being sold in a bustling marketplace, which generated massive amounts of money for the sellers. Furthermore, unscrupulous dealers competed with one another in an underhanded manner, attempting to seize control over Stan’s wealth.

He’s amassed this moving footage over many years, and now he’s prepared to reveal a heartrending tale that will leave you astonished. However, to make this happen, he requires your assistance in reaching the end goal. We invite you to join us on this journey as we strive to uphold Stan’s memory.

Stan Lee: The Final Chapter faces backlash from Marvel fans

Despite Bolerjack acknowledging that he lacked the ability to halt the exploitation during that period, the documentary movie has drawn criticism from several viewers, with some labeling it as a “money-making scheme.

One person remarked, “It appears they’re exploiting someone else’s suffering for financial gain.” They had plenty of footage but didn’t consider sharing it with authorities. Even their apparent interaction with Stan, which they’ve made public, seems questionable. There are certainly other aspects we don’t see.

The text could be rephrased as follows: “Apparently, he has been sitting on this footage for years. Given that he had the means to intervene during all these years, or at least attempt to do so, it seems he is not much different from the subjects of his documentary.

A third person chimed in, “He’s no different from the rest, you’d think he would have shared this evidence sooner. Why is he requesting donations instead of simply making it public?

Some individuals have voiced concerns about the Kickstarter campaign, with one individual asking, “Given that the documentary is already complete, why is this person seeking $300,000 from the public through Kickstarter?

It’s more of the same on the campaign’s page, although there are plenty of positive comments too.

As your fellow supporter, I’m genuinely rooting for you in this project, my friend. Your dedication to standing up for Stan is nothing short of incredible, and I’m honored to be a part of your team. Good luck!
