‘St. Elmo’s Fire’ Sequel in ‘Very Early Stages’ of Development, Says Rob Lowe: ‘We’ve Met With the Studio’

As a film enthusiast who has spent countless hours immersed in the silver screen world, I must say the prospect of a sequel to “St. Elmo’s Fire” sends a rush of nostalgia coursing through my veins. This iconic Brat Pack movie, with its timeless tale of seven college graduates navigating life’s twists and turns, holds a special place in the hearts of many who came of age during that era.

I’m thrilled to share some exciting news! As a loyal fan of the iconic 1985 movie “St. Elmo’s Fire,” I can confirm that there are early plans underway for a sequel! In a recent chat with Entertainment Tonight about our Netflix comedy series “Unstable,” Rob Lowe, one of the original cast members, hinted at the possibility of resurrecting “St. Elmo’s Fire” as a film production by Sony. Here’s to hoping we’ll get to revisit these beloved characters once more!

“Lowe mentioned that he’s been discussing a possible sequel with the studio for approximately four months. The recent release of the ‘Brats’ documentary by his fellow Brat Pack member, Andrew McCarthy, has only fueled anticipation for this project.”

“But it’s very, very, very, very, very early stages,” he said. “So we will see.”

“St. Elmo’s Fire, the classic movie, focuses on seven friends who are fresh college graduates, as they embark on their post-academic journeys. It features Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, McCarthy, Emilio Estevez, and Ally Sheedy in lead roles. The late Joel Schumacher was the director, and he collaborated with Carl Kurlander on the script.”

In McCarthy’s latest documentary, Rob Lowe, Moore, Estevez, and Sheedy appeared on camera for a discussion. During this conversation, they discussed with McCarthy the origin of the term “Brat Pack,” as it was first mentioned in a New York magazine article, and how it may or may not have impacted their careers.

In 2019, a television series inspired by “St. Elmo’s Fire” was proposed, with Josh Berman penning the scripts and serving as an executive producer, while Chris King joined as another executive producer. However, despite their efforts, it failed to take flight.

In an interview with “E.T”, John Owen Lowe, the actor portraying Rob Lowe’s son in the show “Unstable”, confessed that he hasn’t watched his father’s famous movie yet. The second season of “Unstable” is set to debut on Netflix starting August 1st.
