Squid Game Season Two Is Closer Than You Think

As a cinephile who has traversed the vast expanse of global cinema, I can confidently say that the anticipation for Squid Game Season 2 is nothing short of electrifying. Having delved into the labyrinthine world of Korean dramas and films, I have witnessed the meteoric rise of this series, and its impact on the global audience cannot be understated.

Could Gong Yoo demonstrate a playful swat to verify if this isn’t just a fantasy? Following our initial glimpse at both new and recurring characters in February, we now have a confirmed release date for Squid Game season two (with even the announcement of season three). Dive into the latest updates from Netflix and director Hwang Dong-hyuk by clicking here.

Who’s playing?

On February 1, 2024:

In addition to award-winning actor Lee Jung-jae (SAG Award and Critics Choice), stars from the initial season such as Lee Byung-hun as the Front Man, Wi Ha-joon as detective Hwang Jun-ho, and fan favorite Gong Yoo as the Recruiter will reappear. Newcomers to the series in undisclosed roles include Choi Seung-hyun (of BigBang), Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Park Sung-hoon (the actor, not the K-pop idol), Jo Yu-ri, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-shim, and Lee David. Show creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk shared that season two will emphasize unity among the characters, potentially against colossal singing dolls.

When are we getting season two (and three)?

On July 31, 2024: Squid Game will continue! In a fresh teaser video, the Showrunner poses the question, “Fancy another round?” If your answer is yes, Netflix seems to be counting on it as the video reveals that season two drops on December 26. Additionally, a third and final season is planned for release in the year 2025.

In a letter sent out via Tudum, Director Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed more details. “In Season 2,” he wrote, “Seong Gi-hun, who made a vow of revenge at the end of Season 1, reenters the game. Will he manage to carry out his revenge? It appears that Front Man won’t be an easy adversary this time around.” He further suggested, “The intense conflict between their worlds will persist in the final episodes of Season 3, set for release next year.” Could it be that Gi-hun will eventually get to spend some quality time with his daughter before all is said and done? Fingers crossed!
