Squid Game Season 3 Shocker: Player 456’s Fate Revealed

The upcoming third season of “Squid Game” will unveil if character Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), originally a gambling addict who played to clear debt in Season 1, is still alive at the conclusion. Throughout the series, Gi-hun has been determined to dismantle the deadly games for good, which led him back to them in Season 2. However, his adversary, the Front Man (Player 001), consistently interfered with his plans during this season, causing things to not go as smoothly as he had hoped.

The second season finale of “Squid Game” saw a player rebellion fall short due to the Front Man’s treachery. Making matters even more heart-wrenching was the sight of Player 456’s closest ally, Jung-bae, being slain by the Front Man before his very eyes. As a dejected Gi-hun is compelled to return to the games at the onset of “Squid Game” Season 3, he finds himself bereft of both hope and the desire to resist.

Does 456 Die In Squid Game Season 3?

In the third season of “Squid Game”, Player 456 was compelled to return to the games following the unsuccessful player rebellion. Since then, he’s been denied the opportunity to vote on whether or not the games should continue for the rest of the competition as a form of punishment for his impulsive actions. Heartbroken and disillusioned, Gi-hun displayed a hint of darkness within himself after killing his former friend and ally, Dae-ho (who betrayed them during the uprising), in the Hide and Seek round.

As a film critic, I found myself pondering the chilling reality portrayed in the climactic scene where our protagonist, Gi-hun, took Dae-ho’s life. This act seemed to signify a turning point for Gi-hun, a moment when he had reached his breaking point and saw no other way out. Given the desperate circumstances that had driven him to play the deadly Squid Game, it was not hard to understand why he felt as if he had nothing left to lose.

Everything shifted when Geum-Ja (Player 149) encouraged him to safeguard Jun-hee (Player 222) and her newborn child throughout the rest of the games. With this inspiration, Gi-hun selflessly helped Jun-hee’s baby navigate the lethal jump rope challenge by carrying her to the next platform, thus ensuring their survival. His brave act, nonetheless, led directly to Player 222’s tragic demise in Squid Game. Feeling that the child would be better protected with Gi-hun, she chose to end her life herself.

By reaching the final stage, Gi-hun gained an enormous chance to win the game and prevent the Front Man and VIPs from exploiting innocent people in the future. However, his chances weren’t ideal during the last round as the remaining players included him and a substitute (the baby transformed into Player 222, standing in for her deceased mother).

Following the tragic fall of Player 333 (the biological father), just moments before the final game’s commencement, Gi-hun found himself in a gut-wrenching predicament: either take the life to claim victory or selflessly give up his own chance for the baby to emerge victorious.

In the end, Gi-hun chose to give up his life, not only to protect the baby but also to preserve whatever humanity he had left. This act was aimed at making a powerful statement to the Front Man and the VIPs, showing them that players like him are more than mere betting pieces for the rich and influential. Rather, they are individuals who dare to defy the odds, willing to make an indelible mark (even if it means sacrificing their lives in the process).

Why Player 456’s Sacrifice Made Him a Hero in Squid Game

In the climax of “Squid Game,” Seong Gi-hun’s selfless act strengthens his role as the protagonist, despite some troubled beginnings in Season 3. By choosing to sacrifice himself to save the baby rather than pursuing his own objectives to halt the games, Player 456 demonstrates a noble purpose that transcends personal ambition.

Gi-hun may have understood that the VIPs desired him to kill an innocent, helpless infant, but he refused to carry out such an act since he couldn’t bear the guilt of doing so.

Demonstrating a hint of compassion, a simple gesture like a farewell bow would suffice as his actions resonated with the Lead Singer (the common people, not the high-ranking individuals who are known for their unsavory nature).

It’s clear that the final act of kindness displayed by In-ho, particularly in saving the baby during chaos caused by the Coast Guard, touched the heart of the Front Man. Instead of delegating the task to someone else, he took it upon himself to act (which could have been an easy opportunity for him to shirk responsibility). Moreover, the Front Man demonstrated compassion and understanding towards Player 456’s daughter by personally delivering his possessions and prize money to Los Angeles, mirroring a wish that Gi-hun had initially held.

The Lead Character entrusted the infant to his sibling, Jun-ho, along with the winnings, assuming that he could offer her a more prosperous existence than he could manage himself. In some sense, there’s still a part of the Main Character within the Lead Character, though it’s uncertain whether this will have an enduring influence on him given his current state, which seems to be irreversible.
