As a dedicated cinephile with a penchant for unconventional narratives, I am thrilled to witness the upcoming collaboration between Hoyeon and Theo James in “The Hole.” Having closely followed Hoyeon’s meteoric rise since her breakout role in “Squid Game,” it’s fascinating to see her delve into yet another compelling character. Her versatility as an actress, demonstrated by her Emmy nomination and SAG Award win, promises a riveting portrayal of Sandy.
Actress Hoyeon, who has previously won a SAG Award and been nominated for an Emmy (“Squid Game,” “Disclaimer”), is set to appear alongside Theo James in the film “The Hole,” directed by Kim Jee-woon.
At the AFM, veterans are advocating for global rights of the film and presenting it to potential buyers. Meanwhile, CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group are handling the domestic rights in the United States.
Written by Christopher Chen and adapted from Hye-young Pyun’s 2017 Shirley Jackson Award-winning novel, “The Hole” narrates the story of James (Owen), a thriving professor residing overseas in South Korea, who is confined to bed following a heartbreaking car crash that claimed the life of his wife, Sandy (Hoyeon). Yuna, his Korean mother-in-law, takes charge of his care, but as she delves into the dark secrets of Owen and Sandy’s marriage and Owen himself, his path to healing becomes uncertain.
As a film enthusiast, I’m excited to share that Sam Esmail, along with Chad Hamilton and Nick Krishnamurthy, is producing this upcoming project under the banner of Esmail Corp. Kimberly Steward and Alex Foster from K Period Media are also on board, as is Andy Sorgie through his KPM-backed production house, Paisan. In addition, Jay Choi and Kim Jee-woon will produce the film, with Soon Ho Song serving as co-producer for Anthology Studios.
As an enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the story I’m involved with is a unique blend of English and Korean narratives, unfolding across both nations. The filming locations will be diverse, with scenes shot in the U.S. and Korea. We’re all set to roll the cameras starting from Q1/Q2 2025!
At this moment, Hoyeon is starring opposite Cate Blanchett in Alfonso Cuarón’s psychological thriller “Disclaimer” on Apple TV+. Coming up next, she will play the main female character in Na Hong-jin’s film “Hope,” which also features Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender. She is managed by Creative Artists Agency (CAA) and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
Vincent Maraval and Kim Fox’s The Veterans banner have been involved in several recent projects, such as Jacques Audiard’s Academy Award contender “Emilia Perez” with Zoe Saldana and Selena Gomez, Walter Salles’ “I’m Still Here” starring Fernanda Montenegro, Luca Guadagnino’s “Queer” featuring Daniel Craig, Jean-François Richet’s “Mutiny” with Jason Statham, and Vicky Jewson’s “Ballerina Overdrive” starring Lana Condor, Millicent Simmonds, and Iris Apatow. Upcoming films include James Gray’s “Paper Tiger” starring Adam Driver, Jeremy Strong, and Anne Hathaway, as well as Jim O’Hanlon’s “Fackham Hall” featuring Thomasin McKenzie and Katherine Waterston.
