For the second time in quick succession, enthusiasts of the renowned Japanese RPG, Chrono Trigger, have found their expectations for a remake shattered.
- Everything started a few weeks ago, during the Italian edition of Comic Con convention. One of the guests was Yuji Horii, the scriptwriter of Chrono Trigger. During the panel, the translator messed up his statement, and as a result, the news about a remake of Chrono Trigger started spreading. However, these reports were quickly denied.
- Soon after, fans’ hopes were reignited when Yuji Horii mentioned in an interview with GameReactor that he wants to return to the franchise and that many people have been asking him for a remake in an HD-2D style.
- The issue is that the GameReactor interview was only available in video format with an English narrator speaking so loudly that it was impossible to hear the creator’s native language. As a result, the Japanese magazine Gamespark contacted Square Enix, which explained that there are no such plans, and the scriptwriter was simply mistranslated.
Due to two errors in translation, the developer found himself in a highly implausible predicament. Yet, this incident underscores the enduring influence of “Chrono Trigger” thirty years after its debut. The fervent desire for the brand’s revival is so strong that fans grasp onto even the slightest hint of possibility.
