A group under scrutiny for supposedly being artificially created has responded with a statement on X, refuting the widely spread allegations.
Come June 2025, I stumbled upon a new band called The Velvet Sundown while grooving to my Spotify playlists. One of their tracks caught my attention and became part of my musical journey on that platform.
The band has accumulated more than 634,000 monthly listeners due to their playlist placement, but whispers about the group being entirely AI-created began circulating through social media. These allegations stem from the fact that despite attempts to locate them, the band members – Gabe Farrow, Lennie West, Milo Raines, and Orion Del Mar – seem non-existent. Moreover, the images they’ve shared on Instagram have been identified as AI generated.
As reported by TechRadar, Deezer has indicated that the band’s music is entirely produced by artificial intelligence. However, neither Spotify nor Apple Music have commented on these allegations as of now.
The band has released a statement defending their authenticity, stating that all lyrics were penned during late, sweltering nights in a compact California bungalow.
The Velvet Sundown responds to AI claims
It’s astonishing how some individuals who claim to be ‘journalists’ persistently peddle the unsubstantiated notion that The Velvet Sundown is ‘AI-generated’, without any proof whatsoever. Interestingly, none of these supposed ‘writers’ have made an effort to contact us, attend a performance, or delve deeper than the Spotify recommendation system.
This isn’t just playful; it’s our genuine music, crafted during late nights in a small California bungalow using authentic instruments, creative minds, and heartfelt emotions. Each chord, each lyric, each imperfection – they all carry the essence of humanity.
This isn’t merely a jest; it’s our music, crafted during long, sweltering nights in a compact California bungalow using genuine instruments, creative minds, and heartfelt emotions. Each chord, every lyric, every error – all HUMAN.

They labeled the AI assertions as “offensive” and took steps to secure their personal accounts by locking them down. (Maintaining a conversational tone while conveying the original message)
They stated, ‘Simply because we don’t participate in TikTok dances or live-stream our work doesn’t make us inauthentic.’ It’s disrespectful when some blog editors choose to view us as machines instead of acknowledging that an unknown band is out here working hard and creating something people appreciate.
Due to unwarranted harassment, we’ve been forced to secure our personal accounts. It seems that a certain writer, driven by the need for clicks, failed to comprehend our existence beyond their controlled independent media environment.
Due to persistent harassment, we’ve been forced to secure our personal accounts. This is because a certain writer, driven by the desire for clicks, failed to accept that individuals like us have a presence beyond their controlled independent media bubble.

Not only did The Velvet Sundown become popular on social media as an example of AI-generated content, but on June 20th, a controversial Titanic escape simulation game was also posted on Steam, causing quite a stir.
