SpongeBob SquarePants joins Hatsune Miku in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds collab

In the game “Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds”, SpongeBob SquarePants has now been added to the roster alongside Hatsune Miku and others, and his kart is themed around Krabby Patties!

At this summer’s Game Fest, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds was unexpectedly unveiled, capturing interest due to its distinctive cast of characters. Although Sonic and his companions remain, Sonic himself steps aside from being the central figure in this game.

Instead of creating new characters, Sega has adopted a strategy similar to Thanos from Marvel comics, gathering famous characters, much like how Infinity Stones are collected. So far, developers have unveiled Kasuga Ichiban from the Yakuza series, Joker from Persona 5, and even collaborated with the renowned virtual idol, Hatsune Miku.

Indeed, it’s not over yet for Sega, as SpongeBob SquarePants is set to join an illustrious lineup, ready for some swift competitions across the underwater landscapes of Bikini Bottom.

SpongeBob joins Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds roster

June 22nd saw Sega posting a fresh trailer for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, offering fans a sneak peek into the SpongeBob-themed racetrack set in Bikini Bottom. Earlier mentions are correct; SpongeBob, Nickelodeon’s intelligent sea sponge character, will be driving his Krabby Patty-styled go-kart. The race track includes popular spots from the show for an immersive experience.

At a certain moment, SpongeBob and his racing companions break down the entrance of the Krusty Krab, with a seemingly uninterested Squidward handling the cash register. Notably, there’s a mechanized version of the familiar antagonist, Plankton, in sight as well.

To reach the field of Ping, players should ensure they don’t get hit by his gigantic fists or laser beams from his eyes, as these are lethal. Towards the end, Patrick made an appearance, so SpongeBob enthusiasts can choose between this comical duo when starting races.

In addition to that, it’s worth mentioning that Sega has hinted at collaborations with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Avatar as the next additions. It’s expected that we’ll receive further details on this downloadable content before the scheduled release date of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, which is set for September 25, 2025.
