Splitgate 2's New Faction Abilities Unveiled In Gameplay Trailer

As a seasoned FPS veteran with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must say that the Splitgate 2 gameplay trailer has piqued my interest like never before! The fusion of Halo-esque gameplay mechanics and Portal’s iconic portals seems too good to be true.

After unveiling the cinematic reveal trailer for Splitgate 2, developers at 1047 Games have now shared a gameplay trailer for the upcoming free-to-play first-person shooter, offering players an insightful glance at the portal-jumping combat they can expect when the title hits shelves in 2025.

The video showcases gameplay and commentary by well-known competitive gamers and influencers in Splitgate, such as Timothy “iiTzTimmy” An, George “KingGeorge” Kassa, and Ian “Enable” Wyatt.

Kassa described the game’s movement as swift and dynamic, mentioning that the slide feature significantly enhances its fast-action “run and gun” gameplay.

In the trailer for Splitgate 2, they clarify the faction system, a novel gameplay element not present in the initial Splitgate. This upcoming version of Splitgate will introduce three factions to its gameplay.

  • Aeros: This is the class for the movement-lovers. Players who join this faction gain increased agility, with quicker reloads and faster sprinting.
  • Meridian: The Meridian faction is effectively a support class, giving players who join it the ability to heal themselves and their allies. Members of the Meridian faction can also use a scan function to see enemies through walls.
  • Sabrask: This faction is more focused on defense, and is ideal for players who are either new to using portals, or simply don’t wish to focus their gameplay around them. While not as mobile as the other factions, players who choose to join Sabrask will gain access to helpful defensive tools like a damage-blocking wall and sticky grenades.

In a four-minute preview, gamers have been afforded an extended glimpse into the gameplay of Splitgate 2, as yet without a fixed launch date in 2025. Developers 1047 Games assure that the sequel will be accessible on both consoles and PCs by then. In the meantime, enthusiasts can engage with a faction selection quiz from 1047 and tune into a live stream later this month for additional insights into the game’s mechanics. For fans of portals, the live stream is scheduled on Splitgate 2’s Twitch channel on August 14 at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET.
