Splitgate 2 Open Beta Is Live, Is Almost The Full Game (And Won’t Wipe Progress)

In simple terms, the beta testing phase for Splitgate 2 has begun, which is nearly identical to the final version of the game. This beta will persist up until the full game‘s release in Summer 2025. Moreover, any rewards or cosmetics you unlock during this period will not be reset.

In the beta version of the free-to-play portal-centric FPS game, you’ll find a selection of 25 weapons, one being a fresh railgun power weapon. Additionally, there are 15 diverse maps and 10 gaming modes available. Among these maps are new Onslaught mode arenas for 24 players, unveiled for the first time in testing sessions, as well as fresh Arena maps like the iconic Stadium map, a reappearance from the original Splitgate. Furthermore, a much-loved game mode from the initial Splitgate, Takedown, is being introduced in the beta, along with four custom Simulation maps tailored for this mode.

In addition to the Splitgate 2 beta, a new feature called “The Lab” has been introduced. This is essentially Splitgate’s version of Halo’s map-creation tool, Forge, allowing players to design their own custom modes and maps. The developers at 1047 explicitly mentioned Halo: Reach’s Forge mode as the inspiration behind The Lab’s creation.

1047 announced that any progress made during the beta phase of Splitgate 2 will persist upon its full release. This is great news since the beta will feature a $5 mini battle pass, which includes several character and weapon skins, portal skins, emotes, sprays, banners, weapon charms, and premium currencies for additional cosmetics. Additionally, three founder’s packs containing exclusive cosmetics will be available for purchase.

In simple terms, the beta version of Splitgate 2 allows cross-platform gameplay across various devices. You can access it on your PC through Steam, Epic Games Store, or Microsoft Store. Additionally, it’s playable on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PS4 as well.

When Splitgate 2 fully launches this summer, developer 1047 has unveiled a roadmap filled with exciting updates. This includes additional maps, weapons, and game modes, along with a significant surprise yet to be revealed when the game reaches version 1.0. For now, they’re keeping that secret under wraps.

1047 Games began working on Splitgate 2 back in 2022, after they decided to halt the development of the original Splitgate, which had been released on consoles about a year prior. The reason for this decision was to concentrate fully on the sequel that utilizes Unreal Engine 5, as they felt it would be more efficient to create the game without needing to make adjustments later. They likened the challenge of maintaining the original Splitgate as its popularity grew to “trying to bail water from a boat while simultaneously keeping everyone who bought tickets for our ship content, and transforming that boat into a rocket ship.
