The live alpha for Splitgate 2 has been launched on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. This includes cross-platform play between all systems, and it will remain active until March 2nd. Developer 1047 Games mentioned that the content available in this Splitgate 2 alpha represents less than half of the final game.

Among Splitgate 2’s standout features is its innovative Glacier map, designed for 8-versus-8-versus-8 encounters. This map offers two unique game modes: Multi-Team Domination and Multi-Team Hotzone, which resemble classic King of the Hill formats. In Domination, players aim to capture and hold four distinct areas, while in Hotzone, there’s a single large zone to control.
Additionally, you’ll find two fresh gameplay options: Splitball and Firecracker. Splitball represents our version of the traditional Capture the Flag gameplay, and Firecracker is an innovative twist on the Search and Destroy style of play.
Besides Glacier, there are also two additional maps: Bypass and Eden. Bypass is modeled after a park layout, extending vertically, while Eden features portal walls that players can take advantage of.
In response to player suggestions, adjustments have been made to two gaming modes:
1. In Team Deathmatch, round durations have been expanded, and the required number of kills for a win has increased.
2. For the standard Hotzone mode, the joint advancement on captures has been eliminated.
In a fresh twist, Splitgate 2 is a shooter that takes inspiration from Halo and Portal. Its unique portal-based mechanics set it apart from similar games, as players can transport themselves through portals, offering an engaging and distinctive gameplay experience. Currently, the open alpha is accessible only on PC and current-generation consoles; however, it will be released for PS4 and Xbox One later this year as well.
