‘Split Fiction’ Movie in the Works: Bidding War Begins for Rights to Adapt Hit Video Game (EXCLUSIVE)

The movie version of “Split Fiction,” the latest cooperative game created by Hazelight Studios, the team behind “It Takes Two,” is currently being developed, according to information obtained by EbMaster.

Reports from the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco reveal that Story Kitchen, a media company spearheaded by the team behind “It Takes Two,” is gathering the film’s actors, scriptwriters, and director into one package as they field numerous offers for the movie rights from prominent Hollywood studios.

This week at GDC, we have EbMaster keeping a close eye on the escalating auction, providing further insights about the project soon.

On Thursday, neither Hazelight Studios nor Story Kitchen provided a comment when approached for one.

The creative work “Split Fiction”, penned by Josef Fares, director, and studio head Sebastian Johansson, merges the realms of fantasy and science fiction. It tells the story of two authors who find themselves imprisoned within the stories they’ve crafted. In this game, players encounter gameplay elements such as split-screen battles, intricate platforming puzzles, and unique abilities tailored to each character.

The game has been met with universal acclaim from both players and experts, earning numerous favorable reviews and significant commercial success. As reported by Hazelight, the game managed to sell over two million copies within the first week after its launch on March 6, and this figure is still climbing at a swift pace.

“Initially unveiled at the 2024 Game Awards, ‘Split Fiction’ actually started being developed right after the successful release of Hazelight’s game ‘It Takes Two’ back in 2021. Interestingly, the movie rights for ‘It Takes Two’ were acquired by Amazon as early as April 2022.”
