Split Fiction Movie Greenlit, But Director Josef Fares ‘Doesn’t Care’!

It’s been announced that a Split Fiction movie is moving forward, however, the game’s director Josef Fares has expressed indifference towards film adaptations based on his creations.

In simple terms, critics hailed Split Fiction as one of the top games in 2025 and one of the most inventive achievements in gaming history. Interestingly, it seems the movie industry shares this sentiment, as Variety claims a movie version of the game is reportedly in development.

It appears that Story Kitchen, known for producing popular entertainment like the Sonic movies, is said to be assembling creative personnel. According to Variety, they are on the hunt for writers, directors, and actors, with plans to present the movie to top Hollywood studios in a competitive bidding process.

It’s important to note that this isn’t the first game by Hazelight Studios to receive such adaptation plans. In fact, as far back as 2022, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s production company announced their intentions to adapt It Takes Two for the big screen. Despite all these developments, however, it appears that Josef Fares, the founder of Hazelight Studios, remains unfazed by these plans.

Josef Fares ‘doesn’t care’ for film adaptations of his games

During a private conversation with Josef Fares before the launch of Split Fusion, I inquired about the current progress of the It Takes Two film, which was initially announced three years ago.

“To be honest… Hollywood, there’s so much talk,” Fares said. “They talk so much, I’m telling you.”

Despite being known for his charm, the studio boss mentioned he’d receive the final script for the movie based on his 2021 Game of the Year award-winning game. However, he hadn’t taken a moment to glance at it so far.

A script has been forwarded to us, but honestly, I haven’t had a chance to look at it yet. Whether or not we proceed with it remains to be seen. If it does come to fruition, I might find it enjoyable, but at the moment, it’s not something that particularly interests me.

It’s evident that Fares prioritizes only the prosperity of his games. While adjustments are open to discussion, they don’t hold significant importance to him or the team. Essentially, whether the rumored Split Fiction adaptation comes to fruition or not, it’s a matter of little worry.

Just as the movie “It Takes Two” only becomes real when actions follow words, so too does the fate of “Split Fiction” remain uncertain until it’s released in theaters – if that ever happens.
