Information has been disclosed by EA and Hazelight Studios regarding the functionality of Split Fiction‘s Friend’s Pass and cross-platform compatibility across various gaming systems. They also offer a complimentary trial for individuals who haven’t purchased the game yet.
In line with Hazelight’s earlier cooperative games like It Takes Two and A Way Out, Split Fiction introduces a feature called Friend’s Pass. This feature enables players who have purchased the game to team up with someone who doesn’t own a copy, allowing them to complete the entire game together. However, Split Fiction takes this concept a step further by incorporating cross-platform play, an addition not found in its predecessors.
How does Split Fiction’s work?
1. To start off, someone needs to possess the game, either physically or digitally.
2. Subsequently, your friend should acquire Split Fiction’s Friend’s Pass on their preferred platform – this could be a PC, PlayStation, or Xbox – through their specific digital marketplaces.
3. Keep in mind that if you and your buddy are using different platforms (for instance, PC and PlayStation), both of you will require an EA account for seamless gameplay.
After securing access to Split Fiction, I’d extend an invitation to my gaming buddy within the game itself. Once they accept, we’ll embark on a joint adventure, exploring every corner of the game side by side.
If neither of you has the game, that’s alright! The Friend’s Pass provides a complimentary trial for both players, encompassing the initial levels of Split Fiction. To access this, both parties will need to download the Friend’s Pass version of the game. When either of you decides to buy the complete game, progress can be seamlessly continued.
In games like “It Takes Two” and “A Way Out,” I found an interesting catch: if I was playing using a Friend’s Pass, I didn’t earn any trophies or achievements on my platform. However, the one who owned the game did. Now, in “A Way Out,” if I eventually decide to buy the full game, it seems like I’ll get all the trophies and achievements I would have earned while on the pass. I’m curious if this also applies to “Split Fiction.
How does cross-play in Split Fiction work?
In simpler terms, both “It Takes Two” and “A Way Out” didn’t allow players from different platforms (like PC, PlayStation, or Xbox) to play together. But, if you had “It Takes Two,” PS4 and PS5 users or Xbox One and Series X/S users could still enjoy the game together, as long as they were within the same console family.
In simple terms, Split Fiction was initially available only on current-generation consoles, so cross-platform gameplay wasn’t an option. But great news! Now, Split Fiction supports cross-platform gaming, allowing PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S users to join in the fun together. To enjoy this feature, both players must create their own EA accounts at no cost.
Hazelight offers a Discord community as well, featuring a channel titled “Searching for Players,” which is ideal for individuals seeking companions to engage in games of Split Fiction when they lack someone to coordinate gameplay sessions.
On March 6th, the eagerly awaited release of Split Fiction is set for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Meanwhile, Director Josef Fares has shared his opinions on AI, and clarified that Hazelight Studios will always steer clear from creating live-service games.
