Spirit Halloween Playfully Roasts ‘SNL’ After Fake Ad Sketch by Calling It an ‘Irrelevant 50-Year-Old Show’ With ‘Shrinking Ratings’ and ‘Unknown Cast’

As a long-time fan of Saturday Night Live and Spirit Halloween, I must say this playful banter between these two iconic brands has brought me immense joy! Having grown up watching SNL and relying on Spirit Halloween for my annual Halloween costumes, it’s refreshing to see them engaging in such a lighthearted tussle.

As a die-hard movie buff, I can’t help but share my take on the latest buzz! Spirit Halloween is diving headfirst into the Halloween spirit by giving SNL a taste of their own medicine after they aired a playful parody of our beloved store during the Season 50 premiere. In the spoofed commercial, cast members like Chloe Fineman took a humorous dig at us for supplying communities with not-so-great items: wigs that cause irritation, one-time use fog machines, and costumes based on famous characters, subtly modified to dodge any legal issues.

Spirit Halloween’s official account on X chose to create a modified “SNL” costume to steer clear of legal issues. They shared a picture for the “SNL” Season 50 costume labeled as “Outdated 50-Year-Old TV Program,” featuring references from the past, unrecognizable actors, and dwindling viewership numbers.

The Spirit Halloween account posted, ‘We excel at bringing things back to life.’

The Spirit Halloween sketch on ‘SNL’ has amassed almost 950,000 views on YouTube and continues to climb, making it one of the top-viewed clips from the Season 50 opener. Despite this, Emmy winner Jean Smart, who hosted the episode, was not featured in the Spirit Halloween sketch.

In simpler terms, “Though things are thriving on Wall Street, small towns are facing difficulties,” says Heidi Gardner in a voiceover at the beginning of the ad. “Shops closed, businesses shuttered, deserted parking lots… It can feel like nobody is concerned when tough times strike. But help is coming because when others depart, we arrive.

The scene swiftly changes to a Spirit Halloween storefront, which has taken over an empty K-mart. The show acknowledges this retail chain for breathing life back into the structure and attracting customers during its six-week tenure before vacating.

On October 5th, Saturday Night Live (SNL) is scheduled to broadcast a fresh episode featuring host Nate Bargatze and musical guest Coldplay. Among the initial lineup of hosts for Season 50 are Ariana Grande and John Mulaney.
