In the lead-up to A$AP Rocky’s role as co-chair for the 2025 Met Gala, he has a double reason to rejoice – the premiere of his movie teaser is also on the horizon! Known as Rocky, he shares screen space with Denzel Washington in Spike Lee’s latest production titled “Highest 2 Lowest.” The filmmaker unveiled this sneak peek on Instagram at precisely 11:00 a.m. ET on May 5. Interestingly, A24 had announced earlier that the teaser would be released on May 6 – a mere two hours later than anticipated!
As an electric-blue Brooklyn Bridge flickers in animated motion, Washington’s voice resonates with conviction, asking, “Do you believe in yourself? Do you believe you’ll be successful?” This collaboration between Washington and Lee marks their first since the 2006 release of “Inside Man” and is their fifth overall.
The movie draws inspiration from Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 crime film, “High and Low,” which itself was derived from Ed McBain’s 1959 novel, “King’s Ransom.” Although the trailer suggests a Washington-centric narrative, Lee stated in 2024 that Washington plays the lead role in the film. Alongside him are Jeffrey Wright, frequent collaborator Ilfenesh Hadera (from “Old Boy” and “Chi-Raq”), and Ice Spice making her acting debut. The movie, titled “Highest 2 Lowest,” will be released this summer following its out-of-competition screening at Cannes Film Festival. Will Washington’s EGOT nomination drought end after being overlooked by the Oscars for “Gladiator II” and the Tonys for “Othello”? We’ll have to wait and see.
