It was amazing to hear that Spike Lee got to meet the Pope at the Vatican! But honestly, the coolest part was seeing him try to make the Pope a Knicks fan! After his speech, Spike presented Pope Leo with a custom Knicks jersey – a really thoughtful gift considering how much Spike loves the team. He’s the biggest celebrity supporter out there, and it was sweet to see him share something so personal. I even heard he’s hoping the Pope’s blessing will help the Knicks win next season! It’s extra special because three of our players – Brunson, Hart, and Bridges – all went to Villanova, which is where the Pope went to school. Spike posted a picture on Instagram of the exchange, and his caption was hilarious. He wrote about presenting the jersey and pointed out the Villanova connection, ending with his signature ‘Ya-Dig’ and a basketball emoji. It was such a cool moment!
Being the first American Pope, Pope Leo is likely to receive gifts celebrating sports. Just last week, Chicago Bulls announcer Chuck Swirsky presented him with a personalized Bulls jersey while visiting the Vatican. Pope Leo, as a spiritual leader, shows affection for everyone and that includes their favorite sports teams.
