Fans are getting excited about the upcoming Spider-Noir character, and Sony is planning more Spider-Man spinoffs focusing on Spider-Gwen and Spider-Punk. This news has generated a lot of buzz, but also leaves everyone wondering what’s next.
Aside from the popular Spider-Verse films, Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU) hasn’t really hit its stride. While the Venom movies made money, they weren’t universally loved, and films like Morbius, Madame Web, and Kraven the Hunter were generally disliked by critics – though they did inspire some funny memes.
It’s not surprising that creating a Spider-Man series without Spider-Man himself proved difficult. But Sony seems to be figuring out the right approach by concentrating on other characters connected to the Spider-Man universe.
When The Hollywood Reporter inquired about potential writers working on spin-offs featuring Spider-Punk or Spider-Gwen, Sony Pictures Animation co-president Kristine Belson stated she couldn’t disclose that information, but confirmed that development is currently underway for both projects.
Spider-Gwen & Spider-Punk spinoffs spark one Spider-Verse question
Since Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Noir appears in the Spider-Verse films, fans are wondering what this means for Miles Morales’ future.
Sony has officially announced that movies focusing on Spider-Punk and Spider-Gwen are currently being developed, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Miles Morales is a fresh take on the Spider-Man story in the comics. He’s also the main character in the animated films Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Across the Spider-Verse, and the next installment, Beyond the Spider-Verse.
The newest animated movie will finish the Spider-Verse story, leaving fans wondering what Sony has planned for Miles Morales. One Reddit user asked, “With the announcements of spin-offs focusing on Ghost-Spider and Spider-Punk, what’s going to happen with Miles?”
I’ve been wondering about this ever since Sony announced these new shows today. It looks like their plan is to make spin-offs based on the popular Spider-Verse animated movies.
That doesn’t sound like a bad plan, but I’m a little uneasy because, as far as we know, Miles’ story concludes with the events of ‘Beyond’.
A fan on Reddit pointed out a popular idea: the upcoming Beyond the Spider-Verse movie, scheduled for 2027, might conclude the story of the current Miles Morales, and a new, younger version of the character will then be introduced into the main Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I remember reading this last year – someone asked Kevin Feige over at The Hollywood Reporter about whether Marvel was actually working on a live-action version of this character, and it got everyone talking again. It definitely seemed like they were at least considering it!
Kevin Feige explained that while there are no current plans, Marvel has been asked to hold off on introducing Spider-Man into the multiverse until Sony completes its highly successful animated Spider-Verse films.
This opens the possibility of seeing a live-action Miles Morales in the MCU as early as 2027. However, one Reddit user pointed out that it would be odd to recast Miles with a live-action actor while still following the adventures of his animated counterpart’s friends and family.
Considering the release schedules, we’ll likely be well into Tom Holland’s next set of movies before those older films even come out. It would seem strange to keep revisiting those stories when they’re already starting fresh with a new series.
It makes sense that Hobbie doesn’t know Miles well in ‘Across the Spider-Verse,’ so their limited interaction is understandable. However, it would be odd if the upcoming Gwen movie completely ignored Miles – not even a mention or a photo. We don’t want a repeat of what happened in ‘Madame Web,’ where simply saying Peter Parker’s name was avoided.
How Miles Morales could fit into Sony and Marvel plans

Marvel fans have been sharing theories about how to bring Miles Morales into the Marvel Cinematic Universe while also making sense of the existing multiverse.
One commenter pointed out that the character is known as Spider-Woman in the movies and will continue to be called that in the upcoming spin-off.
A satisfying conclusion for Miles Morales could involve temporarily closing off dimensional travel, similar to the ending of The Amber Spyglass. This could be paired with a poignant, yet sad, encounter between Miles and his universe’s Gwen Stacy, reminiscent of the emotional moments in Night at the Museum 2 or 11.22.63.
Gwen used a fake name in the first movie because she searched for herself online, and I suspect some people wouldn’t approve of that.
One person noted that this development opens the door for Miles Morales to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, if Sony intends to keep control of the character Gwen Stacy, also known as Spider-Woman or Ghost-Spider, it seems unlikely we’ll see her adapted into the MCU anytime soon.
Even though Gwen Stacy and Spider-Gwen are officially separate characters, the studios probably view them as essentially the same character when it comes to things like contracts or overall planning.

So, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens with Miles Morales in future movies, I guess. But honestly, everyone’s really hyped about the possibility of seeing Spider-Gwen and Spider-Punk get their own films! I’m definitely crossing my fingers for those.
Fans are excited that Sony is focusing on hero characters instead of villains, with one person tweeting, “Heroes, not villains!” Another fan expressed anticipation for how Spider-Punk will be portrayed.
Honestly, I’m really hoping we get a Spider-Gwen movie soon! And you know what? I think focusing on expanding the Spider-Verse with characters like her is a way better plan than all those solo villain movies Sony’s been making with Spider-Man characters.
