Spider-Man 4’s Future in Jeopardy After Avengers: Doomsday Delay!

The sixth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has experienced a significant reshuffling in its schedule, pushing back the release date of Avengers: Doomsday by over seven months. This delay may significantly impact the production timeline for Spider-Man 4, also known as Brand New Day.

Initially scheduled for a May 1, 2026 release, Doomsday has been pushed back to hit theaters on December 18, 2026. Similarly, Avengers: Secret Wars, which was previously set to follow it, will now arrive at a later date as well.

Initially scheduled for release on May 7, 2027, Secret Wars has now been rescheduled to December 17, 2027. This shift is likely due to the need for additional time in the production process for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe films, which are being directed by the Russo brothers.

Since both movies resemble the collaborative nature of Endgame, it’s not unexpected that they require additional time for production. However, these schedule adjustments spark curiosity regarding potential implications for the upcoming Spider-Man blockbuster.

Spider-Man 4 is now set before Avengers: Doomsday

As I write this, Spider-Man 4’s scheduled release date is still July 31, 2026. However, it’s possible that this date may change or the revealed release schedule might contradict the popular theory about its storyline – the film could be set in Battleworld instead.

The rumor originates from speculations suggesting that “Brand New Day” occurs amidst events transpiring between “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars,” a timeframe marked by the start of the multiverse’s deterioration.

In the comics, this event results in the formation of Battleworld – a world made up of pieces from various dimensions, governed by a deity-like Doctor Doom. This is pivotal to the Secret Wars saga, sparking rumors that the Marvel Cinematic Universe might adopt a similar trajectory.

If things go as planned for Spider-Man 4, it could delve into Peter Parker’s role within the shattered multiverse, setting the stage for Secret Wars. However, since Doomsday is now scheduled after Spider-Man 4’s release, it seems Marvel might not be pursuing this storyline anymore.

Alternatively, the studio might postpone releasing the movie entirely at this point, stirring up quite a buzz, as evidenced by the involvement of industry expert Daniel Richtman in the conversation.

He wrote that since Spider-Man’s “Brand New Day” storyline is now taking place before Doomsday, they will likely alter the plot once more, similar to how “No Way Home” was originally scheduled after “Doctor Strange 2.” Previously, America Chavez was intended to have a significant role in “No Way Home,” but these plans changed.

In another location, someone posted on Reddit, “If not otherwise stated, Brand New Day’s release date in July 2026 remains unchanged. Given that Avengers: Doomsday has been confirmed for a December release, it seems logical to conclude that Brand New Day will be the project following Fantastic Four.

To add clarity, since the events of Battleworld haven’t occurred yet, the storyline will not take place in Battleworld. Moreover, this implies that there won’t be a movie bridging the gap between Doomsday and Secret Wars.

The other person expressed their preference, “I’m hoping it sticks with the July release. This significantly increases the likelihood that it will be a ground-level film more than anything we’ve seen before.
