‘Spider-Man 4’ Eyes ‘Shang-Chi’ Director Destin Daniel Cretton

As a film enthusiast with decades of experience under my belt, I must say the news about Tom Holland’s Spider-Man having Destin Daniel Cretton as the director for his next Marvel adventure is quite exhilarating! With his impressive portfolio that includes “Short Term 12,” “The Glass Castle,” and “Just Mercy,” I have high expectations for this new chapter in Peter Parker’s life.

I’m thrilled to share that I’ll continue my web-slinging adventures within the Marvel Cinematic Universe! It looks like “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” director, Destin Daniel Cretton, is in preliminary discussions for directing our next film. Exciting times ahead!

Besides directing the Marvel film “Shang-Chi” starring Simu Liu, Destin Daniel Cretton has also directed films such as “Short Term 12” (released in 2013), “The Glass Castle” (from 2017), and “Just Mercy” (which came out in 2019).

At the conclusion of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (2021), Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange cast a spell that made everyone, including MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon), forget that Peter Parker was Spider-Man. This wrapped up the trilogy directed by Jon Watts, who had previously created “Spider-Man: Homecoming” in 2017 and “Spider-Man: Far From Home” in 2019 with Tom Holland as the star.

At this point, specifics regarding the fourth installment of the series remain undisclosed, however, it’s been confirmed that Tom Holland will reprise his role as the amiable Spider-Man once more. Prior to the release of “No Way Home,” he hinted during press conferences that he harbored doubts about continuing with the character, particularly as he approached his 30s.

At certain points, the partnership between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment has faced some rocky moments. In late 2019, they encountered a disagreement regarding the character’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which led to their agreement being put on hold temporarily. However, they soon reached an understanding and quickly moved forward, eventually resulting in the spectacular crossover event “No Way Home,” where Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield reprised their roles as previous Spider-Men within the MCU.

Sony and Marvel had no comment. The Hollywood Reporter was first to report the Cretton news.
