As a gamer who has had the pleasure of experiencing Tony Todd’s extraordinary talent in some of my favorite games, I am truly heartbroken by his passing. His voice as Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was nothing short of iconic, and his portrayal of the symbiote will forever be etched in my gaming memories.
Last week, Tony Todd, renowned for his roles in films like Candyman and Final Destination, passed away at the age of 69. In addition to his movie successes, he lent his voice to significant characters in video games during recent years – for instance, Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

In Spider-Man 2, we were introduced to the symbiote character played by Todd. Previously, he appeared alongside other stars from Spider-Man 2 at a Comic-Con panel titled “Symbiotic Relationships.” Prior to the game’s release, Todd expressed his admiration for Venom on Marvel.com, stating that it’s one of the coolest characters ever created by Marvel. Recently, Insomniac Games announced that Spider-Man 2 will become available for PC on January 30th.
I’m thrilled to share that next month, I’ll be part of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle along with Todd! The creative director at MachineGames, Axel Torvenius, posted on X, expressing how Tony’s kindness, warmth, professionalism, and the depth of his career left us all inspired. Working with him was an honor and a truly humbling experience that filled us with admiration and affection.
Earlier on, Todd had acted in various roles for games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Half-Life: Alyx, and Back 4 Blood as Doctor Rogers. On the big screen, his acting career stretched over many years, featuring him in movies such as Platoon, The Rock, and most recently, Candyman (2021).
