  • Speed Racer lives for the thrill of the race, but on the underground circuit, the rules are anything goes. Dodging bullets, explosions, and dirty tricks, he’s got one goal: to prove he’s the best. But when a dangerous syndicate targets his family, Speed’s greatest challenge won’t be on the track…it’ll be on the streets. With the police closing in and a masked racer lurking in the shadows, Speed is about to learn that some races can’t be won with horsepower alone.

Writer David Pepose, riding a wave of success after the massive reception for his interpretation of Space Ghost, expressed his enthusiasm about the upcoming series by saying, “I can hardly contain my excitement to start this fresh new series inspired by the timeless cartoon – imagine Rocky in a race car, as we push Speed to the max and beyond in the adrenaline-pumping Formula X Championship League.

Artist Davide Tinto shared his enthusiasm about contributing to a legendary franchise, stating, “It’s incredible to be part of crafting one of the longest-running, intricate, and most thrilling tales in entertainment. I am delighted to have played a role in shaping the visual style for this stunning new interpretation of the Speed Racer universe. Now, I can proudly say that my work is connected to this epic story that has captivated fans and fueled collective creativity for more than five decades.

On Free Comic Book Day (May 3), fans will get a sneak peek at Mad Cave Studios’ fresh interpretation of the beloved universe from “Speed Racer”. This initial release, titled “Speed Racer” #0, will feature two stories: one set amidst the vibrant chaos of Palm City as the main storyline, and a backup story featuring the character “Racer X”, written by Mark Russell. Excited about this new project, Russell shared, “I’ve been a fan of ‘Speed Racer’ cartoons since my childhood. But as an adult, I find myself drawn to Racer X more than ever. Working in a universe I’ve cherished for years is exciting, but the chance to write a character like Racer X, with his enigma and weight, makes this a truly exceptional opportunity. I hope readers not only appreciate the new direction I’m taking Racer X in, but can feel the love and admiration I have for the character as well.

Since its debut in Shonen Book back in 1966 by Tatsuo Yoshida, the captivating and iconic Speed Racer series has been enthralling fans for nearly six decades. This extraordinary racing saga revolves around Speed Racer, a gifted young racer piloting the technologically advanced Mach 5, often facing off against some of the world’s toughest competitors. Backed by his family, teammates, and the mysterious Racer X, Speed manages to outmaneuver most obstacles thrown at him by rivals. Over the years, the Speed Racer franchise has been adapted and reinvented in various forms on both small and big screens, as well as in countless manga and comic book adaptations.

Speed Racer #1 will be racing onto store shelves on July 30 from Mad Cave Studios.
