Spain’s Moira Pictures Nabs International Sales Rights to Iberseries Project ‘How Grinch and Mrs. Claus Bloodied Xtmas’ (EXCLUSIVE)

As a seasoned film enthusiast with a penchant for the unconventional and a soft spot for stories that challenge societal norms, I find the development of “How Grinchi and Mrs. Claus Bloodied Xtmas” truly captivating. The fusion of comedy and drama, along with its experimental nature, is reminiscent of some of my favorite international productions.

The Madrid-based production company, Moira Pictures, has secured the international distribution rights for the Spanish-Argentine experimental comedy series titled “Cómo Grinch y La Sra. Claus ensangrentaron la Navidad,” which can be translated to “How Grinchi and Mrs. Claus Ruined Christmas.

Based on a real-life event, “How Grinch…” is one of the chosen projects for the 2024 Co-Production and Financing Forum at Iberseries & Platino Industria.

As a dedicated advocate for this project in its development phase, I’m proud to be associated with a series that has Chilean powerhouse Gabi Cortés and Spanish trailblazer Andrea Meneses at the helm as showrunners. The production houses responsible for bringing this vision to life are La Villana and ATM Producciones from Spain, along with Flixxo, a dynamic Argentinian platform.

Cortés and Meneses are collaborating under the banner of La Villana, alongside Manuel Álvarez and Joaquín Hidalgo at ATM, as well as Adrián Garelik from Flixxo.

Based on the summary, “How Grinchi and Mrs. Claus Bloodied Xtmas” tells the tale of Grinchi, a disgruntled comic artist, who assists a woman dressed as Mrs. Claus in disposing of a bag stained with blood that contains a dead body.

Despite their best attempts to evade capture, the police manage to apprehend them, resulting in Mrs. Claus being taken into custody. As investigators delve deeper, Grinchi’s widely popular comic strip ignites a crusade for justice, transforming Mrs. Claus into “The Champion of Christmas.

The cast features actors and actresses hailing from various nations. Notably, we have Meneses, María Rosa Molina, Laura Ojeda, María del Prado, and Néstor Roldán from Spain; Sebastián Rad and Martina Santacruz from Argentina; Cortés from Chile; Alex Sorian Brown from the United States; and Heber Villegas from Mexico.

The producers stated that every character in this series is crafted alongside the actors and actresses who bring them to life. These performers draw upon their personal experiences to breathe reality into this fictional world.

To generate buzz for their upcoming comedy series, they’ve conceived a mini-series titled “Pitchin”, currently in production. The idea behind it: Just as a brief can lead to a full-length series, why not create a micro-series that could pave the way for a grand macro series?

The producers aim to revolutionize the sales pitch process by transforming it into a self-contained, episodic mini-series. Simultaneously, they’re exploring and fostering an audience for ‘Pitchin.’ With over 200 creators and artists on board, they’re constructing a unique, immersive world together.

According to La Villana’s Cortés and Meneses, the black comedy series “How Grinchi and Mrs. Claus Bloodied Xtmas” is based on a real-life event and revolves around “a young girl victimized by an older man, a woman who chooses to face her past and her silence.

In their words, instead of presenting a character as a victim, I’d be bringing forth a protagonist who, worn out by the persistent inner echoes, chooses to mete out justice herself.

As I embark on this exciting journey, I’m thrilled to share that my project, still in its development phase with no confirmed shoot dates, has managed to secure the backing of Tailab Incuba based in Madrid. This is a significant step forward for us!

The showrunners expect to have at least four different directors on the project.
