As a seasoned cinephile with a penchant for international cinema, I find myself thoroughly captivated by this collaborative effort between Amore Cine, Txintxua Films, Quijote Films, and Gema Films on “Morir de Pie”. The blend of Spanish and Latin American talents, coupled with the intriguing premise of the film, promises a unique cinematic experience that I eagerly anticipate.
Paz Lázaro’s Amore Cine from Madrid and Txintxua Films, a significant factor in the growth of the Basque Country, have joined forces with Quijote Films to produce the witty psychological drama “Morir de Pie” (To Die on Your Feet) by María Paz Gonzalez, who is also known for her work on “Lina de Lima”.
They have now become part of the team at Gema Films from Argentina, a company that recently collaborated on a project this year and also worked together with Santiago and Los Angeles-based Quijote Films to produce “Lina de Lima”.
At a recent gathering of the Iberseries & Platino Industria conference in Madrid, an exciting new agreement was unveiled, marking a significant leap forward in the collaborative endeavors between filmmakers from Spain and Latin America. The allure of Spain’s generous incentives and both national and regional subsidies has attracted an influx of producers from Latin America and beyond, eager to join forces with their Spanish counterparts.
Cruz, an actress who portrays simulated patients for medical students, experiences a chilling incident one evening at her building’s gym. As she jogs, she witnesses a person collapsing, yet chooses not to intervene and instead continues her run. This callous act is captured by security cameras, sparking a police investigation. Unable to justify her behavior, Cruz comes to the realization that her profession has numbed her sensitivity, prompting her to embark on a quest to reawaken her suppressed feelings.
At Amore Cine, we’re thrilled to be part of this amazing team, strengthening our partnership with Latin America and reaffirming our dedication to supporting female directors with daring, creative visions,” expressed Paz Lazaro from Amore Cine. She further noted: “This movie addresses current and universally significant topics, like the influence of artificial intelligence on medicine and the depersonalization of medical practices, all delivered with a touch of warmth, humor, and an exceptionally engaging tone.
Giancarlo Nasi from Quijote Films expressed his excitement about our recent collaboration with Amore Cine and Txintxua Films, a project that has garnered significant interest since its inception, from San Sebastián to the European Film Market, all the way to Gotham Week. This partnership includes María Paz and the entire Quijote team.
Reaching this significant stage in ‘Morir de Pie’ is vital, and we believe the combined efforts of Chilean and Spanish creatives will maximize the possibilities and creative and technical potential our nations offer. As a production company, we are delighted that this is our second feature film with María Paz and our second collaboration with Amore Cine. In this project, we aim to convey themes and characters using humor and poignancy, stories that may be overlooked but resonate with everyone.
Don Quijote is collaborating with Amore Cine on the film “Ofelia” by Juan Pablo Felix (“Karnawal”), which is at the moment being developed.
