SpaceX Starship 36 rocket suddenly explodes during test

Following the explosion of one of its rockets during a static fire test, both SpaceX and Elon Musk have issued responses regarding the incident.

On Thursday, June 19th, SpaceX’s Starship 36 was positioned at the launch site for a static firing trial. In this test, the engines of the rocket were ignited to assess engine efficiency, search for leaks, and make sure that all the rocket’s systems are working properly before it takes off in reality.

Shortly after ignition, Starship 36 suffered an abrupt explosion on its Texas launchpad. Footage of this incident swiftly became popular on platform X.

SpaceX and Elon Musk comment on Starship 36 explosion

Immediately following the unfortunate incident, I chuckled as Elon Musk playfully quipped that the rocket’s explosion was merely “a scratch.” However, SpaceX took it upon themselves to delve deeper into the matter using ‘X’ to clarify the situation further.

Last Wednesday, around 11 p.m., Central Time, during preparation for its tenth flight test, the Starship showed a significant issue while stationed at Starbase, according to a statement.

During the entire project, a secure perimeter was kept around the worksite to ensure safety. At present, everyone involved is safe and unharmed. Simultaneously, our Starbase team, along with local authorities, are diligently working to secure both the test site and the nearby environment.

SpaceX stated: ‘Residents in nearby towns are not at risk, and we kindly request that people stay away from the site until our safety procedures have been completed.’

Initially scheduled for a complete launch towards the end of June, the Starship 36 mission has been postponed due to delays. It’s crucial to conduct tests on these rockets prior to launch, as was done in this case where no one was injured despite the powerful blast that occurred.
