Spaceballs 2 Just Dropped A Hilarious Teaser, But There’s Another Massive Update About It That Has All My Attention

As a film aficionado, I’d confidently assert that Mel Brooks stands among the 20th century’s comedy titans. His body of work is nothing short of extraordinary, making it a challenge to single out a favorite. However, Spaceballs undeniably ranks high on my list. This hilarious spoof of Star Wars, with its uncanny accuracy in mocking franchises and sequels, is about to become a reality as it soon will have a sequel or two!

Spaceballs 2 Has The Perfect Announcement Teaser

Previously, Josh Gad had hinted at penning a sequel to “Spaceballs,” but details about “Spaceballs 2” were scarce. However, recent developments have provided more information as an official announcement for “Spaceballs 2” has been made, confirming its production and setting a release date in the year 2027. You can watch the amusing announcement video above.

The teaser is flawless. Originally, Spaceballs mimicked Star Wars with a humorous opening crawl that was just as amusing as anything else in the film. This version, though, concentrates on mocking the sheer quantity of sequels and re-makes that have been produced over the past four decades.

Rick Moranis And Bill Pullman Are Set To Return For Spaceballs 2

What makes the excitement over Spaceballs 2 particularly thrilling isn’t just the humor, but rather the revelation of who’ll appear in the film. According to Deadline, Bill Pullman, reprising his role as Lone Starr from the original, and Rick Moranis, our beloved Dark Helmet, are set to return!

The comeback of Rick Moranis is quite significant, given that he has mostly stayed away from acting for many years. Interestingly, he wasn’t part of the more recent Ghostbusters films, despite efforts to bring him back. Therefore, it’s worth noting how his return to the screen in this sequel makes a big impact.

Being such a devoted admirer of Rick Moranis in general, and particularly his iconic character Dark Helmet, it brings me great joy. Creating another Spaceballs movie would face obstacles right off the bat without Moranis’ participation.

It appears as though it was just a matter of time before Josh Gad and Rick Moranis collaborated on a project. For years, Gad has been attempting to launch a follow-up to the original “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.” There were whispers that Moranis would reprise his role for the sequel, though these rumors were never substantiated. Unfortunately, the entire project eventually disintegrated regardless.

Mel Brooks will reappear in the upcoming “Spaceballs” sequel. In the initial film, he portrayed two characters: the Spaceballs commander, President Skroob, and a Yoda-like character named Yogurt. It has been confirmed that Brooks will reprise his role as Yogurt, although it remains uncertain if he’ll also return as Skroob. Given that Skroob was last seen with Dark Helmet on the Planet of the Apes at the end of the original movie, there is a possibility that he may make another appearance.
