Space Marine 2 - The Best Brightness Settings

As a seasoned Warhammer 40k Space Marine fan with countless hours spent in the grim darkness of the far future, I can’t help but feel a tad disheartened when it comes to the game’s visual presentation. However, life isn’t always about sunlit meadows and rosy-cheeked characters, right?

Not every game needs a storybook-like, bright and sunny aesthetic, as not all narratives can be wrapped up neatly with a ‘happily ever after.’ That’s perfectly fine! The Warhammer 40,000 universe is known for its gritty, crimson, and bloodstained presentation. However, the creators at Saber Interactive have chosen to eschew significant contrast in brightness and abandoned the idea of incorporating HDR (and RT) in Space Marine 2. Some gamers contend that this results in overly bright and washed-out visuals. If you share this viewpoint, then consider yourself fortunate because here’s a guide to help you optimize your settings!

The best brightness settings in WH40k Space Marine 2 explained

As technology becomes increasingly sophisticated and widespread, an increasing number of users can now utilize HDR-compatible monitors. However, unfortunately, Space Marine 2 does not currently support such functionality… at least not directly, but let me elaborate further. For the time being, the community has been addressing this issue by crafting a specific custom preset of brightness settings.

  1. Min. Brightness – 0.6
  2. Max. Brightness – 2.5
  3. Brightness – 1.0

This, however, is not the only option that we can try to make the game better looking. The other possibility to check out is to use Auto HDR feature built into Windows 11. If you are lucky and your computer is compatible, you should do as follows:

  1. Go to Settings, then navigate to System, and Display.
  2. In case you have more than one display, select the HDR capable from diagram on the top of the screen and then select “Use HDR”.
  3. With this functionality enabled, select “More options >” and then toggle “Auto HDR”.

Absolutely, it may not provide top-tier HDR quality compared to developer-implemented HDR, but it can certainly enhance the output. Furthermore, we anticipate Ultrawide Support in the future. At present, developers are dealing with matchmaking challenges, online service hiccups, controller malfunctions, CPU overheating, and other technical issues. Here’s hoping that these solutions will provide you with a more immersive dark environment when battling Tyranids. Best of luck!
