South Park creator denies censorship rumors after Episode 5 delay

Matt Stone, one of the creators of South Park, has denied reports that the most recent episode was postponed because of censorship concerns.

South Park is currently airing its 27th season – the first new episodes in two years – and is already sparking conversation with its pointed satire of politics and pop culture. The show remains well-known for its ability to quickly address and comment on current events each week.

After the release of Episode 5 was unexpectedly delayed, fans quickly began to guess why. Online, many suggested the delay could be due to sensitive current events or interference from the network, with some specifically mentioning the recent passing of Charlie Kirk as a potential reason.

“No one censored us… we just didn’t get it done.”

Matt Stone, one of the show’s creators, has explained that the episode wasn’t delayed due to censorship. He told The Denver Post it was simply a matter of not finishing it in time. “No one asked us to remove anything, and we’d be upfront if they had,” Stone said. He added that the show is known for making changes right up until the deadline, which sometimes leads to episodes not being ready on time.

South Park is famous for how quickly its episodes are made, as shown in the documentary 6 Days to Air. The fifth episode of the current season will air on September 24th.

This explanation follows a recent suspension of Jimmy Kimmel’s show due to comments he made about what’s happening in the news. Fans of South Park worried this meant their show might be canceled too.
